We use rain water for the shower, toilet and garden. We use no toxic chemicals or hormones in our garden. From our olive trees we pick olives and make olive oil. We grow our own vegetables and fruit. We bring our waste to a nearby village to be recycled. We have 5 chickens and one rooster to supply us with fresh eggs.
Because we live in the thick of nature we live among an abundance of wild life. Animals you may spot during your stay include; Chameleons, squirrels, lizards, birds of prey, tortoise and wild boar. The chameleon is an endangered species that lives here in the woods and we look after any injured chameleons.
In Patara there is a beatifull beach, a 18km long sandy beach where sea turtles are protected while they come to lay their eggs. The beach is a nature reserve so no one may build houses or hotels. Around the village are the ruins of an ancient city, Lycia.
We organize canoeing trips on the Xantos river, which passes through a protected nature reserve filled with turtles and exotic birds.
We use products from local farmers and neighbors, including honey from a local beekeeper and cheese from goats and sheep herded here in the mountains. We buy the fruit we cannot grow in our own garden fresh from the local market. We work with nearby villages, businesses and hotels to organize trips. We buy our fresh fish from a local fisherman, or we catch them ourselves. Sometimes we buy our fish in the local trout farm in the mountains, reared in a trout nursery. In the nearby village Patara are cosy bars and restaurant, and small souvenir shops. We press our olive oil in a small olive factory in a nearby village. Guests who stay in our b&b can help us harvest the olives in winter.
In the center of Patara we own a campsite for back packers. We use solar energy to power this campsite. When you visit our site we can guide you to some beautiful local places such as The Saklikent Canyon or the sand dunes from Patara, both equally breath-taking sights. We can also guide you to some some small villages, markets and farms to see the real, authentic Turkey.
