Napier accommodation, New Zealand
How this vacation makes a difference
Environment
We offer friendly, smokefree accommodation, encourage use of local facilities and endeavour to act responsibly environmentally. As much as possible we recycle, use organic local produce, reduce waste, promote local businesses and network. Recommend local businesses, network with them, shop locally.
We are only 5 mins walk from the centre of Art Deco Napier, yet it seems like a different world up here in the trees! the house is set in quiet woodland (mostly Oaks) and we offer a peaceful, smokefree setting for your stay. Napier was rebuilt after a devastating earthquake in 1931, and the buildings in the town centre are of the Art Deco style. There is a very active Art Deco Society who work hard to preserve and restore the buildings and many visitors travel here from all over the globe to enjoy our unique city.
Hawkes bay has much to offer the visitor with it's wineries, beaches, walks and scenery. we are living in the centre of 'The Fruit Bowl' of New Zealand and the Farmers markets at weekends offer a wide variety of local produce of a high quality. In Hawkes Bay as in all of NZ, you are never far from an adventure travel opportunity! We also have Cape Kidnappers Gannet Colony 30 mins drive away and tours can be arranged to see them (October to April), either by tractor and trailer along the beach or by kayak. We are extremely environmentally concious and separate paper, cans and glass waste for collection by local authority recycling.
We encourage guests to return unused leaflets and use long life low energy bulbs. Thermostats inside our hot water tanks are adjusted so heat output is not too high. We installed showers to encourage energy (and water) conservation. Guests are encouraged to re-use towels and are aware of our recycling policy. We offer details of shared transport options for tours. Cycle hire details available .
Use of eco-friendly and cruelty free soaps and shampoos for guests, recycled toilet paper, towels changed only at guests request to reduce water and energy consumption. I use Trade Aid organic coffee for breakfast. We use the internet as our advertising medium reducing dramatically on paperwork re bookings etc and online booking facility. The few brochures we do produce for local use are printed as required at home on recycled card.
