How this vacation makes a difference
Environment
Our commitment to encouraging and keeping our environment clean and green is expressed by a variety of practices that we follow here. We use long life, energy efficient bulbs and all toilets are equipped with low usage water pumps. Our contact gas 'on demand' heater cuts down our fuel consumption when we arent fully occupied.
We heat with wood that we cut from our own land using sound timber management to maintain a healthy and vigorous forest for our long term use and future use as well. Our family had been managing this land for over 3 generations. We will change your towels once during a 5 day stay or longer and sheets after a week's stay.
We shop and source our food as locally as we are able, use organics when possible and encourage our guests to patronise our local markets and restaurants.
We have a three bin recycling container located at the top of the stairs where you may deposit aluminum, glass and plastic. We are able to use your old newspapers for fire building in the winter. We are working with the local authorities to bring glass and plastic recycling to our neighborhood. Your patronage helps us convince them that there is a need for these services.
Community
We are a small family run business in a small mountain community. Our area is rich in history and high in unemployment. We have been able to bring more people to this area through our ability to speak other languages and reach a broader market on the web. As our business grows we are able to generate more business and support for other local businesses.
Our Sustainable Mountain Tourism association grew out of our desire to include small businesses, organic food producers and artisans that strive to preserve and enhance rural community life. We have a couple of neighboring restaurants, serving local products, a wonderful museum at the bottom of our road that collects and preserves old local heirlooms, preserving them for future generations.
We support small cheese makers; vintners and liqueur producers that still pay mountain residents to not only gather necessary herbs, but to protect the natural habitat as well. We use and promote ecologically sound practices within our business and with others with whom we collaborate. We are always looking to increase and improve our green practices, leading by example. We sell and promote a small selection of local liqueurs, wines, watercolours, Waldensen painted stones and leather key chains all made by local artisans and associates. Through our collective effort we strive to build a healthy community through sound economic and ecological practices. Your visit helps us take another step along that path.
