How this vacation makes a difference

We source as much of our food and services from local providers as long as we are able to maintain a high level of quality. We endeavour to show our guests the multitude of places to visit on Exmoor in order that the maximum time and money stays in the area.

Our wood burners use sustainable wood produced by the park and we minimise the use of water wherever possible. We have an SSSI which runs through to our woodlands in which the park has created a nature reserve.

We segregate our rubbish into glass, plastics, paper and cans. We recycle wherever possible and use water saving techniques in our cottages. In conjunction with the National Park we have creating a nature reserve in our woodlands. Our washing is done using “eco balls” rather than conventional washing powders and we have a policy of only washing towels that have been used rather than all towels.

We aim to keep as much of the money spent on Exmoor helping local businesses and people; where possible we source our food and services locally. We are actively involved in the Moorland Mousie Trust which has been established to promote the survival of the Exmoor Pony. We are also part of CareMoor, an Exmoor charity that aims to provide additional facilities for Exmoor National Park; we donate the money from the sale of eggs from our chickens as well as general donations to this project.

Wherever possible we will purchase local goods and services as long as the quality can be assured. All food purchased whenever possible is local, our food miles in respect of fresh meat are in single figures whereas many of our vegetables come from the farmers market in South Molton. Our guests are encouraged to stay on Exmoor in order that they can go to local attractions, shops and eating places so that the local economy benefits from our involvement in tourism.

It lived up to, and beyond my expectations. If you want a quiet time away from it all, just to put your feet up then this is the place. Alternatively, should you be of a more active persuasion then the walking (from what I could tell by checking the many guides that are provided) sounds great.(read full review)
