How this vacation makes a difference

Although we are originally from Istanbul, we are owners of our place since 1996 and have been living in Cirali regularly since 2004. We are cooperating with the local community with organic agriculture efforts. We are one of the members of the ecological agriculture association which was founded by local villagers.

We restored all 3 houses in 2006. The houses were restored by local labour and we use local people for maintenance. Most of the textile materials used in the house are produced in our own workshop. Most of the furniture in the stone house was brought there by the former owner of the house. We are keeping all the furniture and maintaining them very well.

We support the municipal plan which is prepared with the assistance of WWF and supported by most of the local people in Cirali. We have an agreement with a local transport company, the airport transfers of our guests are being done by this company. We use local markets for shopping (especially when we buy nearly all of vegetables and fruits from local markets). We go to local restaurants regularly and we recommend them to our guests also. We are marketing locally produced hand made traditional crafts and soaps which are being produced by a Turkish charity foundation called “Nahil”.

We inform our guests about protection activities for caretta sea turtles, the support of the guests are crucial for protection of these turtles. (WWF and a local organization acting about this issue).

We have 2 composts in our garden. There are separate organic waste boxes in all of our houses. Our garden has had an organic certificate for five years. We are cooperating with Ceres. We only use organic fertilizers such as manure and compost. We never use pesticides in our garden.

We don’t use any chemicals in garden and we use environment friendly cleaning products. We started to use the sprinkler irrigation first time in the village and when we started organic farming in 1998 we were the first organic farmers in the Cirali. We use well water for irrigation. Almost all of our bulbs in our accommodations are energy efficient. We encourage our guests to minimise their use of the air conditioning.

The most memorable part was the delight on our 2 children's faces (aged 4 & 6) every morning when they rushed out to play with the little dogs, chase chickens and pick oranges from the trees in the garden. (read full review)
