How this vacation makes a difference

Just a few kilometres away from the hotel, figuring prominently over the horizon, is the Akamas peninsula nature reserve, an area of great natural interest and with several walking trails. Depending on the season, the hotel organises guided walks to the Akamas as well as lectures and slide shows on various aspects of the nature of Cyprus.

The immediate surrounding area is equally rich in wildlife. During the summer months guests will notice along the beach the numerous turtle nests, which are monitored and protected by a local conservation centre as well as by hotel staff, while the hedges surrounding the hotel plantations are full of nesting birds. The low profile design of the hotel buildings is part of the effort of not imposing upon the surrounding environment.

Less visible but equally important are the water and energy saving practices. The orange groves and the rose, herb and vegetable gardens are irrigated from the hotel's own well, which also provides the water for the lavatories thus saving valuable drinking water. All wastewater is treated in a sophisticated biological station and solar panels on the hotel roof provide the energy for heating the water. All lights and air-conditioning in the bedrooms will go off when the key holder is removed from the slot thus avoiding the waste of energy while the guests are away. The air-conditioning will also go off if the balcony glass doors are not well shut.

The hotel restaurant specializes in traditional Cypriot dishes and healthy diet meals. Locally grown products including hotel-grown vegetables are used extensively. The bar among others serves freshly squeezed juices as well as a variety of herbal teas both of which are prepared from the fruit and herbs grown in the hotel gardens.

Story of the accommodation provider

A little local knowledge goes a long way. It turns a good vacation into a truly memorable one. We choose tour operators with a deep connection with special places - people who live and work in the destination and who have fallen in love with it.

So traveling with them is not just a brief stay somewhere, it's a real connection with the people, the landscape, the culture and the environment. It's like really living somewhere and enjoying the peace and quiet or the pace and excitement of the place as much as the people who live there do.

We did really enjoy the vacation - it was both relaxing and refreshing. The hotel that I found through you was, we think - probably the best hotel in its category; firstly because it grew and used seasonal vegetables and fruit; secondly, because it was largely quiet and peaceful and lastly, but not least, because of its location.
