How this vacation makes a difference

We are proud to be holders of both the Green Tourism Business Scheme (Gold award) and the Peak District Environmental Quality Mark awarded for our use of local produce, energy-efficiency, nature conservation and promoting environmentally-friendly business practices.

Our environment is very precious, with beautiful unspoilt views, and no noise or light pollution. Ever mindful of preserving our own environment and the need to minimise pollution everywhere, we try to play our part by being eco friendly, making it easy for guests to recycle rubbish. We provide recycling containers for paper, tins, plastics, glass, and cardboard. In addition we have a compost heap for organic waste.

In the kitchen you will find a range of environmentally friendly, Ecover cleaning materials and detergents. To save energy whenever practical bedlinen and towels are dried on the line outside rather than in the tumble dryer. We also use low energy light bulbs where possible and the outside lights have PIR's. Run off rain water is collected, and used for water troughs for the cows.

As a working dairy farm the traditional stone buildings and dry stone walls are regularly maintained. Whilst not an organic farm we try to farm in a sensitive way that so that the wildlife can flourish along side the commercial cows.

Therefore the farm is full of interesting wildlife including, great crested newts, hares, pheasants, swallows, swifts, song thrushes, owls, buzzards, hummingbird hawk moths and many more. We have wonderful meadow grasses, mosses, bluebells and wild orchids, and have developed a farm walk so that you can experience the countryside for yourselves.

Where possible we buy locally and can inform guests where to buy local food and souvenirs. This includes farmers markets, local food store, local fair-trade shops and the fair-trade town of Ashbourne. We can even arrange for delivery of quality local food ready for your arrival to reduce food miles.
