Cayman Islands dive accommodation, Little Cayman
How this vacation makes a difference
Environment
We is proud to be among the first hotels in Cayman Islands to be Green Globe certified. We commit to training programs, community outreach, and environmental performance reporting requirements, and inter-property exchanges and communications. We have developed a standard of best practices that we have implemented in our resort that include:
Water Conservation -
Sheets and towels are changed between guests or on request only.
Fixtures such as toilets and washing machines are low flow, water conserving models.
Water consumption is monitored on a daily basis
Trash Reduction -
Paper is reused, then shredded and composted
Kitchen waste and beach seaweed is composted
Cloth napkins are used instead of paper napkins
Rags are used for cleaning instead of paper towels
Disposable products are kept to a minimum
Guest toiletries are in biodegradable containers
All cleaning products and all guest toiletries are Green Globe approved
Electrical Conservation -
Since electricity is generated on the island through diesel power we try to keep our electrical consumption minimal or use solar power.
Lights, fans and AC is turned off whenever possible.
Solar panels have been installed in all the deluxe units.
Individual meters have been installed in all new staff housing.
Compact lighting and LEDs are used wherever possible
Electrical consumption is monitored monthly.
Each year, we will organize “Environment Day” to re-emphasize the property’s commitment to improved environmental management.
The management understands that its purchasing decisions can make a significant contribution to improving the property’s environmental performance and their contribution to protecting the surrounding environment. Choosing products that are “environmentally friendly” in terms of content, packaging, and ease of recycling and disposal are fundamentals to the environmental purchasing policy of our hotel. In purchasing responsibly, our hotel becomes more cost-effective, and by purchasing local whenever possible, we stimulate the local economy which enhances the local environment.
Community
We host weekly Central Caribeen Marine Institute (CCMI) lectures on local nature attractions, area environmental programs, and acceptable practices in the area. We organize special activities related to the environment such as: beach clean-ups, Lion-fish culls on the surrounding reefs and various community projects. We also host community events with the proceeds going to local charities such as the Summer Solstice Party, the Pirates Party and Mardi Gras. We see the surrounding community as an integral part of the hotel’s existence and therefore supports many community projects and organizations including the Easter Auction at National Trust, the Carol Concert, fundraising for the Little Cayman School, the Turtle Walking Project for the Department of Environment, the Grouper Moon project with REEF and $1 a dive program for CCMI.
We prominently displays its environmental policy to guest upon their arrival and displays brochures and newsletters of local environmental organizations, nature attractions in the lobby area.
Upon check-in, guests are informed of the hotel’s policies and programs. A brochure is available that describes our EMS, the Green Team, and suggestions on how the guests can participate in both in-house (e.g., guestroom towel and linen reuse program). When each guest is first taken to their room, the appropriate staff member explains the hotel’s environmental program and encourages guests to turn off lights and fans, when the room is unoccupied.
