How this vacation makes a difference

Environment

The house is situated off the Undershsore, near the Lymington river estuary, just within the National Park boundary, we overlook fields and farmland and actively encourage wildlife to our grounds. Our boundaries are a natural habitat for wild birds and mammals.

We are members of the New Forest Green Leaf Tourism Scheme (GLTS) – a Tourism and Visitor Management and Sustainability Strategy for the New Forest.

Here at Leyland Country House we are fully committed to preserving our environment and do all we can to be “green”.

Below I have detailed the measures we have implemented to re-cycle, re-use and reduce waste.

Bat and Bird boxes
Re-cycled paper for printing
Recycled loo roll
Energy saving light bulbs
Glass, paper, cardboard and household packaging is re-cycled
Compost from grass cuttings and food waste
Cartridges from printer re-cycled
Local produced used wherever possible
Clients leftover water used in irons and to dilute cleaning materials
Email where possible to save paper and trees
Eco washing machine and tumble dryer
Old uniforms, towels, bed linen sent to charity shop
10% discount if you leave your car at home

We have also invested in a Biopure sewage system which is far more environmentally friendly than traditional septic tanks, reducing the waste needing to be collected and the resultant lorry journeys. All completely unnoticeable to our guests!

We have refurbished and developed the House and cottages predominantly using locally sourced labour. Where possible I have carefully selected furnishings and decorations that have been previously used, from local antique shops, markets, sales and freecycle often refurbishing or remodelling them to have a new life as part of our interior decoration themes.

We recognise that many people will use their car to come to Leyland Country House, but we do hope that they will then use us as a base from which to explore the New Forest on foot, by bike, on horseback or via the New Forest Bus Tour which has as stop in Lymington town and Pier, just a few minutes walk from us.

We pride ourselves on using as much local produce as possible in our breakfast selection, subject to seasonal availability. Our bacon and sausages come from the New Forest and all our preserves are made here, with us keen to get feedback from our guests on some of our new varieties!

When you next visit Lymington and the New Forest remember to take nothing but photographs and leave nothing but footprints...

Community

We have built up an excellent relationship with many local businesses that share our business ethos. We keep information on them for our guests and ask that we guests give is feedback on their own experience to help us keep our recommendations fresh and accurate.

Although we only have a small number of staff, we love working as a close-knit team, all helping to make our guests feel special during their stay. We actively encourage our staff to develop their skills and develop with us.

The house is predominantly decorated with pictures featuring local scenes, many by well-known local artists. We have New Forest Biscotti and greeting cards by local artist on sale in our foyer, supporting these local businesses.
We ask that our guests do respect the special landscape of the New Forest and have available the cards advising them of the New Forest Code.

We carry the New Forest Marque: The Marque® – a sign of quality. A product is only licensed to use the Marque® if:
- it contains at least 25 per cent New Forest produce
- it has met stringent standards according to its particular speciality (for example, meat producers must show that high standards of welfare and good husbandry have been applied at all times).

Everything is home cooked and we only use the highest quality New Forest produce available from handmade local sausages, Freshly laid organic barn eggs and thick crispy bacon.

We love to share local knowledge with you and to recommend places to wine and dine in Lymington and the New Forest. We like to support our local independent businesses and we hope you will too!We have built up an excellent relationship with many local businesses that share our business ethos. Landscape

We recognise that Leyland Country House is in a unique location, just within the New Forest National Park boundary, yet a stones throw from the historic picturesque quayside town of Lymington. We encourage our guests to explore both and have available and publish on our website our three favourite walks that all start from the house, two of which take you straight into the National Park. We feel we are ambassadors for the area and have a duty to inform our guests of what they can see and do in this most special part of England.

When we go away for a couple of days we really appreciate it if our host knows the area in detail and can give the little ‘gems’ to visit as time is very limited. Nothing is worse than arriving at a new destination and ending up missing all the good bits! It does happen! Then to your horror on the last day you find all those fabulous things to do and….guess what….no time left to do them as you are on your way home! Many times we have been asked what is there to do in the New Forest? We are so beautifully placed here in Lymington with a National Park on its doorstep with Beaulieu, Bucklers Hard just down the road and Lyndhurst the natural ‘capital’ of the Forest just a few miles away.
