How this vacation makes a difference

Environment

Rotonda is a protected bird sanctuary and is home to many exotic and beautiful animals. Bald eagles, great blue herons, egrets and many other birds and animals inhabit the area spread over 20,000 acres.

It is a very protected and unique environment.
Turtles are also protected in the area.
This canal system also crossed over into the community, bringing fresh water to each of the 'wedges' that make up pie-shaped sections of the wheel. Residents here know that the area to the south of the wheel will not be developed, as it is a protected wetland featuring native wildlife including egrets, bald eagles, and American alligators. The beauty of the natural environment is also preserved by the practice of putting all utilities underground, something that other communities, not so rigorously planned, are less committed to doing.

The mission of the Peace River Wildlife Center is to treat and rehabilitate injured and orphaned native Florida wildlife (except venomous snakes) and, if possible, to return them to the wild. If they cannot be returned to their natural habitat due to sustained non life-threatening physical limitations, a permanent home shall be provided by the Center. We also seek to inform the public about native Florida wildlife and how to co-exist with these beautiful creatures successfully through formal educational The Peace River Wildlife Center is a nonprofit 503c organization dedicated to the care, preservation and protection of Charlotte County's native wildlife. Animals (mammals, birds and reptiles) that have been orphaned, displaced or injured are brought to the center. Presently, our annual admission's tally is roughly 2,000; this number has steadily increased every year. Most of our "patients" are rehabilitated and later released back to their natural habitat. For those animals whose injuries are too extensive, the PRWC becomes their permanent home. At present, they have approximately 125 residents.

We have made an effort to conserve energy at Sunhaven Villa. We have low flow shower heads to conserve water. We have low emission light bulbs and have air conditioning on a need to use only set up.
We encourage guests to close blinds when they are not there so that the house does not heat up too much as therefore the use of fans and air conditioning is reduced.

We encourage use of bio degradable cleaning products.
Also there is an outside clothes dryer so that guests have the option of not using the tumble dryer.

We recycle plastics and paper and put them in our recycle bins for collection.Solar outside lighting.

We use environmentally friendly bug control when ever possible.

We have installed dimmer switches to reduce the amount of energy used in our lighting. We have provided candles so create ambiance and encourage people not to use lighting to reduce energy.

Sunhaven villa gives you a number of ways to enjoy your vacation and feel good about taking it.
We offer recycling, environmentally-safe cleaning products, energy-efficient appliances, green energy sources, and other practices that you conscientiously incorporate into your everyday life.

Community

We encourage guest's to buy local from the farmers market so to help the local sustainability. Ahhh... this is what makes the south excellent - fresh (and local!) fruits and veggies at reasonable prices.

At Sheckler in Englewood you can grab produce which always seems to be overflowing from the shelves and stands. The staff are super nice. The most recent time I was here I had a question about the avocados growing nearby, which were also being sold, and I asked about how to tell when they were ripe. The workers are local and very informative selling fresh locally sourced and grown products, no pesticides or harmful chemicals.
They have a great range of fruit and vegetables to choose from. When you buy here you support the local farmers and growers.
This place is all good neighborhood gem.

Dearborn st in close by Englewood is a great place to pick up some local crafts and one of a kind custom jewelry. You can also pick up something unique like hand painted silk.

We support our local restaurants and we would like our guests to too.
Family owned and operated, Mama’s Italian Restaurant opened its doors in 1982. A real hit with the local community, Mama’s has since been awarded the prestigious title of “Best of Englewood” in various categories 34 times! Stop by and treat you and your family to any of their made to order scrumptious creations, or possibly one of the hand tossed pizzas.
We also recommend the 'Pig n' whistle ' restaurant which is just 2 kms from SunHaven Villa, support the local community!
