Gulf of Aqaba accommodation, South Sinai, Egypt
How this vacation makes a difference
Environment
We live in the extraordinary landscape of South Sinai and the nature around us is our most precious property. So we do everything to sustain our environment. Our place is situated on a riff where no basements for real houses can be built. So we can be sure that there will be no hotels built around us and we need to rely on light and natural building techniques that don’t corrode the ground. Our huts and restaurant are built with natural materials and parts like bamboo, wood and cotton. We try to abstain from electricity as much as possible and use sweet water just for cooking. For the shower and toilet we use a slightly salty water. In our kitchen we offer a lot of fish from the Red Sea and work mostly with local products that are grown with a lot of effort in Sinai. Our riff is still in a very good condition as there is no water sports besides a little snorkeling. So if you are looking for a peaceful beach without banana boats but with millions of fish that come until the seaside and birds that stay with you in the restaurant, you have found it here.
Community
Our community and neighbourhood are the Sinai bedouins who used to live here long time before people from Egypt, Israel, Europe and other parts of the world started to settle in Sinai. We see their everyday struggle to leave their nomadic lifestyle, to adapt to a more settled life which they did not choose for themselves and to earn their living with new and different ways. So we support our neighbours and community by close collaboration. We offer trips by camel, feet or car to explore the amazing deserts and mountains of South Sinai and all of our drivers and tourist guides are bedouins that have been born in Nuweiba or Taba and who know every stick and stone in the area. Our drivers and guides will show you around and give you a real Sinai experience. We give the Bedouin women in our neighbourhood a marketplace to trade their handmade products and to earn some money in order to maintain their families and send their children to school. And in our small bazaar we sell traditional handmade Bedouin bags, pillow sleeves, scarfs and accessoires which are done by a Bedouin women cooperative in the famous area of St. Catherines.
