How this vacation makes a difference
Environment
Our aim is to preserve nature in its purest form. This includes everything from protecting our natural environment and its fauna to making sure our practices are as sustainable as possible.
We are located right next to the Pano River, an important water source for the Parish of Pano and its surrounding communities. We use water wisely and encourage our visitors to do the same. We capture rain water for (filtered) consumption and use treated water for all other purposes direct from the river through our water system. Grey water is disposed of sustainably in septic tanks that have up to a 20-year lifespan.
Electricity is limited to common areas and we conserve energy by providing our guests with alternative lighting. All electricity onsite is run through a generator.
One of our five programs at the reserve is the cultivation of an organic garden, where we grow various produce including yucca, tomatoes, bananas and much more. All produce grown onsite is consumed in our restaurant. We compost organic waste for use in our garden on seasonal plants. Inorganic waste is recycled through a Government program which sells plastics to commercial enterprises.
We are currently working on opening a 2 hectare natural zoological park within our reserve. The aim of the park will be to protect the animals, in particular native species, in the surrounding area from poaching and other harm. Our property is already a protective haven and natural habitat for many native species of birds and other wildlife, which come and go freely, as they please. the zoological park will be an extension of this habitat.
Community
We are a local, Kichwa family-run business. Supporting and preserving our local indigenous heritage is as important to us as the conservation of our environment. Through our five programs at the reserve, we hope to promote an understanding of our local, pristine environment, our community and our people.
One of the five programs is our language classes, taught by qualified teacher and Manager of Atuny, Vicente Andi. To benefit both visitors and the local community we offer language classes in both Spanish and Kichwa. Kichwa is the first language of our native people and the preferred language here in Pano. We believe language is an important part of promoting and protecting cultural heritage and making sure that the eco-tourism experience is a mutually beneficial one for both our community and our visitors.
Our community Pano is a small Parish located near Tena, in the Amazonian province of Napo Ecuador. Pano has various small businesses, shops selling local produce and local entertainment. Through providing budget eco-tourism and accomodation options, we aim to support our local community of Pano, helping local economic development. We also support local eco-tourism companies operating out of Tena by referral. By providing sustainable and responsible accommodation and tour options to visitors, we are helping promote our culture, lifestyle and language, and bringing much needed tourism income to our small community.
