I hesitate to write this review for selfish reasons. Why? Because this vacation is so wonderful I'd rather keep it a secret! Situated on the southern slopes of Mt Batakaru in remotest Bali, this place is a pocket of paradise, far removed from the ravages of the 21st century. Having spent a week there I did not want to leave.

The most memorable parts were being able to catch public transport to most places with a toddler; the fantastic location of the guesthouse; and the great innkeepers & their fantastic hospitality.

The most memorable part were the ...scones on arrival (they were the best I have ever tasted!), walking around the beautiful country side and the farm...

We had such wonderful, exciting and relaxing time, made possible by the beautiful nature, the perfectly designed accommodation, perfectly integrated with the surrounding environment and most of all by the great effort, the hard work, the touching kindness and the relentless but unobtrusive enthusiasm of Porridge and Jeanelle and of all the other people. They made our vacation truly unforgettable.

The bedroom we chose was magic and I'll never forget going down the escarpment garden to the cliff walk at the bottom - that was brilliant. This accommodation completely excelled itself with the hamper and goodies that were provided.

From our arrival by boat through the mangroves through to our departure three days later, we loved our time at the lodge. We were the only guests staying there at the time and we received a high level of care from owners Dan and Holly.

The rooms are very private, and look our directly onto the Ocean - we watched a big lightning storm come in as if we were all alone in the world.

Searching for whales, being greeted by dolphins, snorkelling above seahorses leave a warm fuzzy feeling inside. I feel truly privileged to have been a part of the ecolodge and Dominican way of life, even if it was just for 2 weeks.

The richness of the wildlife surprised us every day. One morning we saw dolphins swimming along the shore. Another dawn we came upon a sea turtle laying her eggs.

Our vacation was a dream come true. Owner, Keith has built the whole place by hand with logs he found on the nearby beaches. What he has done is remarkable and his wife Randi adds the special touches that make the place really feel like being home.

Most memorable was just sitting on the balcony in the sunshine with a coffee and a book and looking across the Coral Sea...and waking up to the sounds of the forest...and seeing several cassowary... and eating in the beautiful restaurant.

Every part of our week long stay at the lodge was memorable. We had the best week of our lives!

The campfires on the beach which were lit when anyone was leaving after a week's stay. The fabulous staff played traditional drums and we watched shooting stars, under the stars, whilst dancing and singing.

Walking on a completely empty long golden beach, watching the monsoon rains from our windows and kayaking in the mangrove swamp and watching the monkeys were the highlights.

'Eco' and 'eco-lodges' have become buzzwords used by both terrific organisations dedicated to conservation and benefitting local people, and those seeking to exploit its marketing potential for economic gain with little or no regard for destinations.
