Responsible tourism: Aspen West End walking tour, Colorado, USA
Our walking tour is only on foot. We're committed to a minimal impact in terms of providing entertainment so this tour is offered without the use of any transportation or vehicles. Sustainability is something we're very conscious of, and we do offer a History Coach tour which is done in a rechargeable electric vehicle. This is battery operated so guests are transported through town with minimal effect on the environment.
In addition, as a museum we use energy efficient practices in our museums and grounds. We are currently raising money to renovate our archives to safeguard the objects as well as create an energy-efficient storage center for these precious artefacts.
We recycle everything we can and we're conscious of conserving water and reducing energy usage. We offer an opportunity to explore Aspen's streets and heritage in a way that helps to protect the environment and preserve the natural beauty of Aspen for generations to come.
Aspen has a strong community and as well as offering things to see and learn for visitors to Aspen, we also serve the community too by running programs for schools and children's groups, as well as running events throughout the Summer season that bring the community (and visitors!) together.
We are locally serving and funded nonprofit. Our mission to preserve the community's history, so everything we do, day in and day out, serves that goal. We offer fellow nonprofits discounted rates to use our sites, we visit more than 25,000 kids in the local school system and we are the keeps of some 30,000 objects that tell our community's history.
We are partially publicly funded and our programs and offerings reflect that neighborly spirit. Everything we do stays within our supported tax district so our services benefit those who directly fund us. In addition, we offer our sites at a discounted price to local residents and we always make sure that our community is the No. 1 priority.
