Canoe tour of Margaret River, Western Australia
How this vacation makes a difference
Environment
Our business is eco tourism – we provide guests an opportunity to experience Margaret River’s natural environment and give them the opportunity to see local wildlife and experience the beauty and cleanliness of the surrounding area. Guests are explained the natural history of the river and how well it has been maintained from pollution and destruction like most rivers in Australia. Guests are taught the medical and herbal properties of surrounding local plant species and the wildlife that is found living around the surrounding area.
As the river has a strict policy on no motor boats, we use non impact canoes, which do not harm the natural environment in anyway. We only have up to 25 guests in a group on the river at one time. We also maintain and clear up any areas visited on the tour, every day. We recycle and use carry away re-usable containers for our lunch. Bins are provided for guest to dispose of any litter (which we take away at the end of the tour). No impact is made from our eco friendly tour. We also have a quarterly river clean-up that all out staff participate in.
Community
Our company has been locally owned and operated by a Margaret River resident for the past 21 years. Our staff are all local residents from around the Margaret River and Busselton regions. We employ people from all walks of life, including different religious beliefs and indigenous people. We trained all staff using other employed qualified guides.
All our products and items used in our business are sourced from South west suppliers. We support and volunteer our services to the local environment groups, Cape to Cape Catchment Group (based in Margaret River) and Geo Catch (based in Geographe region). We are also members of the Previlly Wilderness Society.
We also donate tickets for our tours to many southwest charities, schools and community organizations for fundraising. These include Banardo’s Children’s Charity night at Watershed Winery, Cowaramup BMX, Western Australia Child Diabetes and Princess Margaret Hospital are just to name a few. Our tours are used for school based excursions for year 5, 6 and 7 camps. We also offer work experience placements for local schools.
