Environment

Such variety in the geographical character and biodiversity in Bolivia make this country a perfect destination for travelers to have a range of experiences. This itinerary attempts to impart an assortment of these possibilities. Unique activities, landmarks, and lodging are all incorporated in this trip. For example, Hacienda Candelaria is an accommodation featured in this tour that gives an organic experience to guests as a working hacienda that actively harvests produce. Enjoy meals prepared on a wood stove and served by candlelight at this charming guesthouse. In Uyuni, travelers can stay at a hotel that is made of salt blocks derived from the nearby salt flats making your “home” an actual component of the surrounding environment. What better way to immerse travelers into the local surroundings!

Another way we support the environment is through our participation in Tour Operators Promoting Sustainability. We are actually one of the few North American tour operators that is a member of TOPS. Participating in this organization displays our pledge to help conserve vulnerable land and sustain a consistent livelihood for the residents of local communities in our destinations. Through our involvement in TOPS, we hope to encourage travelers to join eco-friendly tours, motivate local operators to improve their sustainability practices, and result in the entire travel process becoming more eco-focused.

Community

This tour incorporates many different aspects of community building. For instance, visits to textile museums and artisan homes directly support the tradition of weaving in Sucre. Also, local naturalist guides accompany travelers for the duration of the tour. The specific expertise of our guides span the spectrum. However, they all share the characteristics of being extremely passionate and knowledgeable resources. Their personal background as natives as well as a focused education make each guide an invaluable component of our operations in Bolivia!

Local families run the all of the accommodations chosen for this trip, giving them a way of living well and directly benefiting their community. We choose hotels that meet the criteria of having locally owned operations, responsibly built structures, high standards of cleanliness and safety, a reasonably small capacity to make the stay personal, and a good location. We also grant preference to accommodations committed to sustainable practices that reduce any negative influences on the environment.
