Responsible tourism: Western Cape tour in South Africa

Where possible we try to use properties that are Fair Trade Tourism accredited accommodation or accommodation that sets their selves apart with their commitment to responsible tourism. Using properties with accreditation or other similar responsible tourism commitment gives our travelers the assurance that their vacation benefits local communities and economies, and that the business is operated in an ethically, a socially and environmentally responsible manner.

An example of accommodation used on this tour is Duinepos Chalets in the West Coast National park about an hour and a half drive from Cape Town and a true hidden gem. Duinepos chalets are comfortable modern chalets build out of sandbags in the midst of nature. Highlight of the itinerary and a place where you will absolutely feel spoiled is Bushmans Kloof.

Proudly situated within the Cederberg wilderness area in the Cape Floral Kingdom a designated UNESCO World Heritage Site Bushmans Kloof is devoted to preserving the extraordinary profusion of fynbos species on the reserve, and flower season there is a sight unlike any other.
Every level of their operation is based on sound conservation practices. Their outstanding staff is passionate about the subject and closely monitors water quality, soil condition, vegetation and wildlife. They have also implemented an environmentally friendly solid waste disposal unit and an advanced Biolytix wastewater processing system.
All management actions are governed by a comprehensive Environmental Management Plan, ratified by the Bushmans Kloof Conservation Trust. Bushmans Kloof makes regular use of the services of the Nature Conservation Corporation, an independent environmental management consultancy. They ensure that travelers make minimal impacts on the environment.

On this tour we work with local operators for our meet & greets, transfers, excursions and accommodation. Most accommodations are involved in the empowerment of their communities, have received a Fair Trade Tourism and / or Heritage SA certification. These certifications showcase the commitment towards a more sustainable tourism industry.
Some of the suppliers committed to the local communities and included in this tour are Fair Trade Tourism certified Antrim Villa and Khayelitsha Travel for a local community experience.

We believe that on a vacation you should benefit the people you meet without having to do anything extra for it. By staying in Fair Trade Tourism certified accommodation you know your money has been well spend and benefits the people you meet. When going on tour with Khayelitsha Travel you are certain to be hosted by the local owners of the business sharing things out of their daily life with you. Fun element that can be booked on this tour is a high tea in the township!
