Responsible tourism

Responsible tourism: Croatia island family activity vacation for teenagers

Environment

Our self catering apartments conform with traditional rules of housing & construction on Brac Island, that wants to maintain its charm and antiquity. To build these apartments members of the local community are employed and all building processes and materials are as environmentally friendly as possible. The buildings are all as environmentally friendly as possible and all built in a sympathetic styling to the local surroundings.
All apartments encourage waste management for sort and re-cycle. For all of the activities included in the program the guides take every measure to minimize the impact on the local environment. An example of this is during mountain biking tours our guides will always discuss the impact of our tour on the environment, and our guides will lead by example in collecting litter left by less well informed guests within our daily led groups. When visiting villages we always endeavour to arrive by foot, bike or kayak and encourage interaction between our guests and the local community to allow each to develop a deeper cultural understanding.

Community

Our local partners are fully integrated into the local community. All our guides and staff are from the Dalmatia area or are from Brac island.

To promote eco responsible tourism we try to keep to small sized groups, as we dont want to encourage over commercialism and overcrowding of these sensitive areas.

With small groups participating in carefully chosen locations, or biking & walking on established marked out trails, we can introduce & educate our clients to this spectacular area without compromising the environment and the finely balanced eco system of Brac island.

We always ensure that we work with local suppliers and accommodation wherever possible. This means that our clients get to meet the local people and gain fantastic authentic experiences from them. Our active vacations are focused on contributing to the local economy and too minimize the environmental impact.

When car or van transportation is used we use local drivers, often in owner private operated vehicles, which brings work to people who may otherwise be under or unemployed in the community.

1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your vacation?

Jumping into the freezing source water after a bike ride in intense heat! That was an amazing feeling. And also the canyoning, rafting and really all the activities were fantastic. We had a wonderful vacation.

2. What tips would you give other travelers booking this vacation?

Go for it! You need to be averagely fit, and able to stand fairly intense heat if you go in the summer. It's a great vacation for families, especially with teenagers.

3. Did you feel that your vacation benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?

Certainly, the hotel we stayed in was occupied only by our group while we were there. Our guides Barisha and Maria were wonderful, attentive and available at all hours to help us.

1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your vacation?

The people, the food, the island! We felt at home with the staff of the wonderful Illyrian Resort; Ivan, Maira, Maya, Nino, Maida, and the owners, a wonderful couple. This is a fantastic family owned business that provides the nicest and most soothing atmosphere to relax and enjoy with your family.

2. What tips would you give other travelers booking this vacation?

This is an excellent vacation destination for families who want to avoid noisy, big resort type of vacations. The island of Brac is absolutely gorgeous, the people are wonderful, particularly all the staff at the Illyrian Resort. They all made us feel
like family. The area is not crowded although it relies on tourism.

3. Did you feel that your vacation benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?

Absolutely, the hotel is managed by a wonderful family, all of whom are from Croatia.

4. Finally, how would you rate your vacation overall?
