This trip can be tailor made throughout the year to suit your requirements
Tailor made family vacations
What are the main benefits?
A tailor-made vacation is a unique experience designed to match exactly what you’d like to do. For the past 20 years, we’ve specialised in family adventures – so we’re perfectly placed to create a bespoke trip with mum, dad, kids, and maybe even grandparents, in mind. Our dedicated team of specialists has young families, and they’ve travelled with kids in tow – so they know what it’s like and what you’ll need to make your trip flow.
How much does it cost?
A tailor-made family trip doesn’t have to break the bank. We can help you choose the mode of transport, style of accommodation and activities in your itinerary that will perfectly match your budget. Over the years we’ve built our supplier relationships to enable us to get the best possible price for your trip, and gathered a lot of tips and tricks to create a perfectly-balanced journey. Our aim is to deliver authentic travel experiences every time.
How much support is there?
You’ll be accompanied by one of our specially-trained tour leaders during your vacation, who’s there to find that family-friendly restaurant, make the jungle come alive or show you the hidden tunnels at the temple. You’ll be met at the airport on arrival and have your leader’s and our UK office’s full support during your trip, whatever you choose to do.
We think a family tailor-made adventure is the perfect way to enjoy the world in safe hands but with your own stamp of individuality.
Responsible tourism: Borneo family vacation, private departure
The very ethos of our style of travel is responsible; small groups, just your family and friends, traveling on an itinerary planned by experts in close collaboration with our in-country team of locals who know the area like no others. Throughout the planning process and during the operation of your vacation, steps will be taken to ensure negative impacts on the environment and cultures being visited are minimised and positives are maximised.
On this tour, your visit will support a number of local environmental projects which get valuable income from tourism, along with benefitting from the awareness raised by visitors. These projects include a visit to the Sepilok Orangutan Rehabilitation Centre, which was set up to help re-introduce these wonderful creatures back into the wild after a life of domestication or having been orphaned.
Your homestay in the Kinabatagan Jungle will take place in conjunction with ecological organisation, MESCOT, whose aim is to provide villagers with environmental education and the means of making a living from the forests, without the need for their destruction. Part of the program is to develop an ecologically sound wildlife and ecotourism centre, owned and operated by the villagers themselves.
You will explore the delicate eco-system of Kinabalu National Park, following self-guided trails. Your guide will brief you before setting off to ensure you are given advice on how to enjoy the environment without damaging it for future visitors. Sticking to marked trails and not venturing off into the forest, avoiding picking the plant life and taking rubbish with you rather than discarding it are guidelines there to protect visitors as well as the jungle flora and fauna.
We believe that responsible travel is about the attitude you take with you and the choices you make when traveling - to respect and benefit local people, their cultures, economy and the environment. For many of us, environmental concerns are now second nature, but on our trips we also encourage cultural responsibility. On this vacation, your family will spend 2 nights in homestay accommodation, learning about the traditions and way of life in this part of the world. Out of respect for our hosts we ask you dress conservatively so as not offend, favouring loose, lightweight clothing over more fitted alternatives. We also ask that you don’t take alcohol to the homestay, out of respect for our Muslim hosts.
As well as supporting local projects, your vacation will also have been designed to put funds back into the local economy, supporting small business and enterprise. We use local suppliers where ever possible: from the speedboat we hire to get to Pulau Tiga to the guesthouse you’ll stay in in Kota Kinabalu, to the actual team in Malaysia that we work with to design your tour and your leader who will be with you throughout, we work with locals.
Your family will eat in friendly, small restaurants, favouring traditional dining and supporting local enterprise over larger chains and any additional supplies will be sourced en route. All of these small actions ensure that the financial benefits of your visit go directly where it is needed most, into the local economies and supporting the regions which your family are exploring.
