The very ethos of our style of travel is responsible; small groups on fully escorted tours, experiencing the very best of a region, a culture and a landscape, with a friendly local hand guiding the way. Our itineraries are designed to give our travelers real life experiences without compromising the part of the world we are exploring; to travel responsibly is at the heart of our commitment as a global tour operator.
This nine day itinerary takes in some of the highlights of beautiful Costa Rica, a country with an abundance of natural wonders; from towering volcanos which regularly fire pyrotechnics into the night sky, to pristine cloudforest, to gorgeous beaches. Whichever stunning location you are keen to explore, should you travel with us you can do so secure in the knowledge that you have chosen an itinerary designed to benefit local economies, support local industry and initiative and do its utmost to protect the environment.
You’ll be staying in comfortable accommodation, locally owned accommodation decorated in a traditional style; a real highlight being your time in Monteverde, where the hotel owner actually grew up in the area and built the hotel himself. It’s full of local flavour and in a great location – watch out for the sloth that has been known to visit the grounds!
Throughout the trip, you will be accompanied by a professional local group leader and a driver. Our ground team in Costa Rica are all recruited in country and in addition to the obvious benefits to the local economy of recruiting in this way; we believe it provides our groups with a richer touring experience. Your group leader will have a wealth of insider country knowledge that will make your trip extra special, as the saying goes ‘a little local knowledge goes a long way’.
When dining as a group, you will tend to eat in small, locally owned traditional restaurants, often eating where the locals eat and usually offering the opportunity to try regional specialities. By day, we’ll purchase supplies en route, either a picnic lunch from local vendors or we’ll stop in small cafes. Our objective throughout is to offer you, the traveler, a genuine, real life experience of the country while supporting local business and this reflects that ethos.
From a conservation and environment perspective you will be encouraged to help us ensure that your journey is as environmentally responsible as possible. Your group leader will be on hand to assist with the appropriate disposal of rubbish en route, recycling wherever possible and we encourage all our travelers to use refillable water bottles with purification tablets rather than contributing to the rapidly escalating problem caused by the copious number of plastic bottles discarded globally on a daily basis.
The entrance fees we pay to visit to the National Parks on this vacation all contribute towards conservation efforts in Costa Rica, but we ask passengers to acknowledge that our responsibility as travelers doesn’t stop at financial contributions. There are some great hiking opportunities on this trip in Arenal, Monteverde and Manuel Antonio National Parks and whether you opt to explore on your own or with a guide we ask that you treat the parks and reserves with respect to help conserve these environments for future visitors, this includes sticking to the marked walking trails and ensuring that you leave no rubbish behind.
As a company we are very aware of the negative effect carbon emissions have on our environment and as such operate a carbon neutral policy; offsetting the ground emissions of all our passengers on all our trips. On this particular Costa Rican adventure that equates to 194kgs of carbon offset per passenger, per departure.
