Responsible tourism: Sri Lanka multi activity vacation
We are longtime members of organization Tourism Concern and support all views in promoting ethical tourism. We encourage our clients to offset the carbon footprints when they buy flights inclusive vacations from us.
All our trips ensure minimalist environment impact and focus more on experience part of the vacation than just showcasing a destination. On our Sri Lanka vacation our local guides brief the groups on riding responsibly when they are off-road and use the dedicated trails for biking in order to avoid erosion. Thus all the cycling routes and walking trails are carefully chosen so as to reduce any impacts like soil erosion etc. We tend to go to more remote areas which are seldom visited by tourists thus increasing the interaction between the locals and the tourists and also supporting the local communities.
It is our ongoing exercise to work with our local operator in ensuring that this trip is run in a responsible way, causing least possible effect on environment and deriving maximum benefit for the local communities.
We prefer to use smaller properties on our Sri Lanka vacation most of which are owned by locals thus our policy of small group travel ensure there is less pressure on them to accommodate tourists and also ensures that we use them more frequently as our numbers are never high. We use well qualified local guides/leaders and ensure that the wages paid to them are adequate and at least at par with the industry standards if not more. In return we use their in-depth knowledge of the local areas which adds to the vacation experience and also commits guides/leaders to preserve their own areas. Our guides/leaders in Sri Lanka brief the clients well in order to make sure that no local communities are offended and all local customs are taken in to consideration while traveling through various communities. On all of the trip route we encourage clients to use local restaurants and shops to make their purchases as this benefits the local community directly.
