Responsible tourism: Vancouver to Alaska tour, by ferry & rail
The west coast of Canada and Alaska is renowned to be some of the most beautiful coastline in the world. Comparing fjord to fjord, the great fjords of the British Columbian Coast rival those of Norway in length and depth but have even higher alpine mountain scenery. Many of the mountains offshore are much larger than those along the Norwegian coast, many large enough to have major fjords of their own, as well as their own mountain ranges. Proud of this stunning land you’ll find that environmental protection is at the forefront of west coaster’s minds. As a responsible travel company we begin at home, operating with responsible tourism values since our inception. Our company adheres to strict beliefs in making the world a better place and minimizing our footprint wherever we go. Tour leaders provide travelers with information about local environmental issues in their respective regions, and provide suggestions of how we can best protect the local environment and culture.
You’ll find west coasters on a whole, very friendly with a rich community presence. Small towns, fishing villages, native indigenous people and communities are all very proud of their nation and environment. Canadians and Alaskans in particular as every day they witness and are surrounded by some of the most spectacular scenery that this world has to offer! The best way to protect a community is to honour it, appreciate the similarities and differences from yours and respect the life around you. Our company is completely community based and we immerse ourselves in the community around us, beginning at home with events such as Christmas in the Community. Raising money and assisting communities in other countries is important to us. You’re in the right place traveling with us!

1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your vacation?
The optional ferry ride from Juneau to the fjord. Wonderful experience. Also optional ice climbing on Exit Glacier...scary, exciting, mouthed my boundaries like nothing else. Great patient and encouraging guides who were very safety conscious.
2. What tips would you give other travelers booking this vacation?
Be prepared for early mornings and late nights. The ferry schedule rules everything. You will spend a lot of time traveling so be sure to take on the optional activities so you have a balance.
3. Did you feel that your vacation benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?
It's low impact travel which in like. It helps communities but doesn't overwhelm them. We shared information about our country and learned about theirs.
4. Finally, how would you rate your vacation overall?
Really great CEO which made such a difference. Loved Alaska and experiencing it through the eyes of someone who is so passionate about his job and the place made such a difference.
