Thermaikos Gulf, the semi enclosed bay close to the city of Thessaloniki has pollution problems. The gulf receives the waters of four major rivers. Increasing awareness regarding agricultural effluents, municipal and industrial waste to protect coastal biotopes is of major importance; we support and encourage every action towards the reduction of coastal pollution.
As a photography group, we are conscious that there are places where the use of flashes, tripods or other equipment is either prohibited or could cause damage to ancient artifacts or the environment. We are respectful of the places we visit and go above and beyond the regulations to ensure we have minimal impact on our surroundings.
We always eat in local tavernas and independent restaurants and choose local suppliers for food shopping. Thessaloniki is famous for its produce and the food market is unique in its diversity! Our tours in this wonderful city are on foot, and if necessary we encourage the use of public transport. As we stay in a lovely hostel run by an inspired bunch of young ladies we help them save energy by switching off every appliance as we leave our rooms, and we are very careful with hot water and heating.
As photographers of course we end up with a set of beautiful images of the locations we visit. By sharing these, we bring awareness to others and demonstrate the beauty of the city, hopefully inspiring others to want to visit.
We meet up with local photography groups and other artists and creatives to share our cultures and inspiration. This sharing of knowledge and passion helps forge long term friendships.
We love street and candid photography and we are ever conscious that some people donít enjoy having their photo taken as much as others! For this reason we remain respectful of individualís wishes and will always delete a photo on request or refrain from taking the picture if asked.
We make the best of this incomparable city by visiting off peak time, helping the struggling local economy when it needs us at most. We use young inspired local guides who love their city, are proud of their history and we encourage their projects to explore the city with a different voice! We re-tell the cityís story in a creative, pleasant and approachable way for all.
Thessaloniki is the second largest city of Greece with a vibrant shopping area, we always promote the local independent stores for shopping and you will find very good bargains especially now that the euro is weak. Businesses on all levels are happy to see us in their premises - we are good customers!
