Responsible tourism

Responsible tourism: Argentina vacation, culture and adventure

We have selected the most ecological hotels, such as Casa Calma & Home in Buenos Aires that have a commitment to sustainable operations, to reduce carbon emission through use of renewable (solar) energy, use less water through water saving and reuse measures, recycling, or those owned by Argentinians rather than international owned hotels chains to reduce economic leakage and ensure money reaches local people. Casa Calma's building is wrapped in plants which act as filters and contribute to the thermal balance of the hotel, whilst saving energy efficiently. We have included organic and artisan vineyards of Mendoza , including Bodegas Salentein and Tapiz, to benefit traditional, family owned businesses rather than large wine conglomerates, and included low impact activities such as hiking to reduce any impact on local biodiversity and wildlife. Internal flight journeys have been reduced as much as possible to reduce carbon emissions. Guides are trained to ensure activities are managed in a sustainable way including tourist behaviour and litter management to help ensure tourism has a positive benefit to local communities and their surroundings.

Our guides recommend artisan workshops and folklore craftsmen where possible to help preserve local traditions and ensure skilled artists benefit from tourism. We prioritize the selection of locally owned restaurants and service providers to help tourism spending reach local people, such as Sala de Payogasta restaurant in the region of Salta, which uses local organic ingredients and makes it own yoghurts, bread and jams. Our agreement with local suppliers ensures that staff are fairly paid and no children are employed to ensure there is no staff exploitation. We employ local guides to provide increased employment opportunities to more isolated regions such as Salta and Jujuy. One of our key partners is the Network of Rural Tourism of the Salta Valleys, which develops intercultural exchange and responsible tourism. The network is a self managed co-operative that focuses on the preservation of artisan products and sustainable agriculture and community based tourism. The co-operative includes 12 villages across the region of Salta.
