Responsible tourism: Hiking vacation Turkey, trails of Cappadocia
Both ourselves and our local agents in Turkey are committed to preserving the natural environment, reducing any detrimental impacts that tourism can have on the area. With this in mind, we make every effort to reduce the carbon foot-print of our tours. Walking tours are the most environmentally friendly form of travel, with much of the traveling conducted by man power (your own two feet), rather than vehicles. We take this one further, with all of our walks starting close to your guesthouses, reducing the need for motorised transport further. This not only reduces your impact on the environment from carbon emissions, it also means that you get a much more immersive experience in the country, getting a better feel for the people and the scenery. The tour takes you through some of the most beautiful scenery in the region, and can instil a real appreciation of the wider world
It is important to us that we give back to the local communities that are visited during this trip in a positive way. By joining this tour, your money is put back into the local community, boosting the local economy and providing jobs. Our local agent in Cappadocia offers internships and training to young university-leavers, training them to become guides. We also use local, family-run hotels who use their gardens to grow their own fresh fruit and vegetables which are then served in the guesthouse. We choose local guesthouses and other local suppliers in order to support the local economy, and fruit and vegetables that cannot be grown in the hotel grounds are purchased from the local green-grocers shop. Our walkers are offered the opportunity to eat at locally owned restaurants and shop in small villages along the way too, where they can enjoy the local food and meet local people as well as putting money back into the local economy.
