This region is known for fresh, organic food and we do our best to promote and support that through the restaurants and cafes we select for guests, thereby supporting local farms that are committed to caring for the natural environment.
We connect guests directly with the volcanic soil that makes this one of the most fertile regions in Italy on our tour of the Sorrentino vineyard and wine business. The next day, we show them Mount Vesuvius up close, with an expert volcanic guide, who will teach them how the people of this area have learned to live in harmony with the volcano, through sustainable agricultural practices.
The Bay of Naples also enjoys protection under UNESCO World Heritage status, since 1995, given the city and surrounding territories significance as the cultural entry point for Ancient Greek ideas, including town planning, into Roman society. Preserving the environment and way of life this region enjoys is to protect one of the most important cities in the cultural history of Europe.
Our aim with sustainable tourism has always been to tread lightly, even when we are in regions where a lot of tourists also visit. We plan our tours outside of peak season, to avoid crowding an area and minimise the seasonal nature of travel on the local economy. This way, guests can experience the beauty, culture and history of the Bay of Naples, whilst better supporting small, family-owned businesses, travel operators, hotels and restaurants.
We believe that responsible travelers are welcome in the places that they visit. On this tour of the two coasts we also adhere to the following principles as to how we plan and organise sustainable travel for tourists:
- We organize itineraries that can be completed without haste, with a limited number of destinations each day - ensuring our customers can gain a greater enjoyment from the local area.
- We keep groups small so that travelers can fully experience the destination and this way we protect the local area from the harmful impact of large tourist groups.
We do our best to apply the principles of responsible tourism, enshrined in the charter of the Association for Responsible Tourism in Italy. AITR's charter complies with the Global Sustainable Tourism Criteria.
