Responsible tourism: North Vietnam biking vacation
Ourselves and our local partners in Vietnam are committed to conserving the environment. In their local offices, our partner recycles and re-uses paper, printing on both sides, in order to avoid wastage. They also employ a smart electricity use system, switching off lights and air conditioning units when not required. During your tour, you will visit a rescue centre for endangered primates, providing yourselves and your children with an opportunity to learn about the challenges facing wildlife in Vietnam. You will also travel primarily by bicycle, using man power rather than mechanical power, providing a great way to really get under the skin of the country whilst also reducing your carbon footprint. Vietnam is a notoriously difficult location to travel in an environmentally friendly way, as access to environmentally responsible resources is extremely limited. However, all of our suppliers and staff are educated on the benefits of becoming a greener company and a greener society. Where there is a will, there is a way, and it is an area which is growing in the region.
We are committed to having a positive impact on the communities that we visit during our tours. With this in mind, we visit only local businesses, giving guests the opportunity to enjoy local dining and cultural submersion. During the tour, you will visit a hill tribe community where you will have lunch at a local home stay and overnight in a traditional longhouse. This provides children with the opportunity to interact with local villagers, of whom they would not otherwise have the chance to meet, promoting their inter-cultural understanding. We discourage our guests from visiting orphanages and other sites that our local representatives have deemed unacceptable from a fair trade point of view, in order to avoid exploitation of local people. We instead promote sustainable, responsible businesses and charities such as the KOTO restaurant, where local street children are employed and trained in catering, in order to equip them with the necessary skills to take on a career and gain independence. Our tours employ local guides and drivers, not only to ensure that your vacation contributes directly to the local economy and benefits the local community through job provision, but also because the local people have the best local knowledge, ensuring your trip is authentically excellent.
