Throughout our trips we use local guides so you can take advantage of their local knowledge of the areas you are visiting. This allows a more authentic experience for our customers and helps put money directly into the pockets of the local people.
Together with our local partners we strive to support locally owned businesses from our accommodation to excursions to car rental companies, therefore supporting the local communities in each location visited in Morocco. On this trip we encourage our customers to eat at small restaurants and buy souvenirs from local stalls to support local businesses. For example we visit The Djemaa el Fna where there is opportunity to explore the surrounding souks. The square is bustling with food stalls, snake charmers and games in the evening and is a great place to sit with a mint tea and watch the world go by. In Aït Benhaddou you will have the chance to explore medieval kasbahs and sample more local food.
We use locally-owned accommodation throughout Morocco. During this itinerary your accommodation in Ait-Benhaddou just over the High Atlas mountains, is one such place. There are but a handful of guest houses in this area and your accommodation is in a small family owned and run guest house, bringing money from tourism into the local area and providing jobs in the hotel for local people.
During our trip to the desert you will have a local guide taking you out from the main oasis out to your traditional bedouin camp for the night, a low impact form of accommodation. They will be able to tell you all about the desert and how best to respect this sensitive eco-system during your stay. We feel this knowledge and expertise really helps our customers gain a better insight into this incredible part of Morocco. You'll have the chance to explore the desert on the back of a camel - a more environmentally friendly form of transport than by car or buggy.
We work with a local partner in Morocco who is committed to working with local guides and supporting their local community. For example, any office materials like old computers are donated to local schools instead of storing them or throwing them away.
We offer all our customers the chance to donate to a local project when they book a trip with us. For our trips to Morocco any contributions go towards a UK based Charity called Moroccan Youth UK. Contributions go towards providing food parcels to sponsored families, providing winter clothing to rural communities, providing basic education to orphaned children, assisting in paying medical costs of those who cannot otherwise afford to pay for medical attention and they provide financial aid and build wells in impoverished communities where water is either scarce or inaccessible.
