Responsible tourism: Cambodia highlights tour, 8 days
On this 8 day whirlwind tour passengers can discover the highlights of Cambodia. Entry fees to top highlights such as Angkor Wat go back into the maintenance of these special attractions. We use expert tour leaders and local guides to educate our passengers on the sites that we visit. Part of this is making sure that our travelers do not leave anything other than a footprint behind whilst visiting these attractions, as well as not taking anything that may be part of the site .
We endeavour to make sure our passengers behave responsibly in South East Asia and do not offer any optional activities that may be seen as irresponsible including those that affect animal welfare such as elephant riding and tiger sanctuaries.
We visit a number of destinations on this tour that give a true insight into Cambodia and educate passengers on the history and culture of this country. For instance from Phnom Penh we visit the Killing Fields and Genocide Museum where passengers get a tour around the complexes. They will be taught about the Pol Pot regime and how far Cambodia has come since then.
Our tour leaders also encourage passengers to help the local community by eating at locally owned establishments and visiting local markets throughout the tour. For instance when we go to the Mekong Delta we will visit various businesses whereby passengers can choose to buy souvenirs from if they like.
Like on all of our Group Tours, where possible we always try and benefit the local communities we travel through. On this particular tour, we stay in locally owned hotels and guesthouses and our experienced tour leaders recommend private restaurants specialising in the local cuisine. Along with this, one night is spent in the Mekong Delta. Here we are told about the local customs and enjoy a locally sourced meal. It is an excellent opportunity to learn about the culture of the small communities living within the delta.
