Responsible tourism: Komodo Dragon adventure in Indonesia

We are committed to sustainability on Komodo Island in which we operate and in the ecosystems we encounter. It is imperative that travelers are aware how to view the dragons in a responsible way and of the dangers encountering a Komodo dragon can have. We strongly encourage guests to respect the local guides instructions as they are world experts in this field.

To reach Komodo island, firstly you must fly to LABUAN BAJO Airport, a fisherman town in Nusa Tenggara (Lesser Sunda Islands) which is accessible by flights from BALI. In Labuan Bajo we will board on a fisherman wooden boat which have been modified to enable it suitable for carrying tourists, equipped by radio navigation, electricity, toilet and life jackets. This is a great low carbon way to explore the islands of the dragon, cruising to Komodo and Rinca Islands, the home of the Last Dragons on Earth.

These islands belong to the Komodo National Park system designed to protect and preserve the endangered Komodo Dragon. We use local guides and low carbon local transportation and your spend contributes to the welfare of the Komodo dragon and the continuing conservation education on these amazing creatures.

We seek to minimize the impact of this trip by minimizing and properly disposing of waste created. We are aware that the hot climate means a lot of water will be drunk so we also ask that guests keep all used bottles with them in order to dispose of and recycle when we return from the trek.

We advise you to be responsible in the dragon's natural habitats and remain mindful of the local community. It is imperative that you follow the instructions of the local guides and respect their local traditions.

Cultural engagement and exchange is central to our company ethos, as each trip is a unique mixture of adventure, culture and wildlife viewing.

We commit to fair wages for local guides and only work with operators that work closely with the local people. You are given the option to fundraise for the conservation of the wildlife and local projects. 100% of this donation is sent to the project before your arrival in order for you to see the visible impact you can make on the local community.

Wherever you can volunteer or spend time with local communities we ask you to follow our volunteer policy and our child protection policy abroad. It is important that we respect local communities and their traditions. By doing so you will unlock authentic experiences and enhance your trip to Indonesia.
