Responsible tourism: Complete tailor made tour of Costa Rica

This is a low-impact cultural and wildlife tour designed to accommodate small groups and private travelers, not a seat-in-bus tour. Your itinerary will see you visit protected areas such as Tortuguero National Park, Pos Volcano, La Paz, the Talamanca Mountains, Los Angeles Cloud Forest, Osa Peninsula, and Corcovado Rainforest. Such regions of natural beauty are in large part sustained by the revenues generated from tourism, meaning your visit will play a small but real role in helping to protect these unique environments.

Your tour will also see you visit a number of private reserves and wildlife centres dedicated to the preservation of rare and endangered species, such as hummingbirds (La Paz) and Green Turtles (Tortuguero). Of special note is the Sea Turtle Centre in Tortuguero, which has been working to protect the severely endangered Green Turtle since 1959.

We employ local tour guides who will help you to travel responsibly through the fragile environments visited during your itinerary, by ensuring that you keep to designated trails, follow the national park guidelines, and do not interfere with the wildlife.

When preparing itineraries we favour the use of small lodges with coherent sustainable tourism policies over larger hotels and resorts. Outside of the city stays at the start and end of the tour, our Complete Costa Rica itinerary will see you stay primarily in small-scale lodges such as Pachira Lodge, El Remanso Rainforest Lodge, and Villa Blanca, all of which are in possession of CST (Certification for Sustainable Tourism). Pachira Lodge is also recognised by the Rainforest Alliance.

Carbon offsetting We provide a monthly donation to the Carbon Neutral fund to partially offset the emissions generated by our business.

Though our Complete Costa Rica itinerary is focused primarily on wildlife-viewing, your journey will also see you visit a number of remote communities. As always, it is important to approach local people in such a way that respects their culture, even as you engage with and show interest in it. This means extending common courtesies such as not taking photos without permission, dressing appropriately when visiting cultural and/or religious sites, and ensuring you do not leave behind litter.

We employ local tour guides who are mindful of local customs and traditions and will guide you on the proper decorum in each situation.

The money generated by your tour through entrance fees, nights spent at locally-owned accommodation, tour guide fees and your patronage of local shops and businesses (such as coffee houses and restaurants) will also help to support the communities you visit.

Most of the lodges visited during your itinerary are located in remote regions, meaning resources and ingredients are by necessity sourced locally. El Remanso Lodge, for example, recruits 98% of its staff from the Osa Peninsula region where it is located, and relies on local suppliers for its fruit, vegetables, and fish.
