Responsible tourism: Brazil nature tour, tailor made
We believe tourism should be rewarding and educational, as well as sustainable. We designed this trip to contribute minimal impact to the local environment with positive benefits to the local communities.
All guides follow strict “green ethics”. Reusable water bottles are provided in an effort to encourage less waste and discourage the need for plastic throw-away bottles. All of our guides practice ‘Leave No Trace’ ethics and provide clear and committed instructions for interacting with nature and wildlife with efforts to preserve and leave undisturbed the beauty for generations to enjoy.
All activities and excursions in are ecologically responsible and low-impact and/or carbon-neutral. Many optional excursions in Rio de Janeiro, Iguacu, the Pantanal and the Amazon are non-motorized and carbon-neutral: hiking, horseback riding, biking. Our Rio de Janeiro, Sugarloaf and Corcovado tour is offered as a walking tour in order to reduce carbon emissions. Our shopping and favela tours are also operated as walking tours. Other optional low-impact excursions include hiking, climbing, hang-gliding, walks in the Tijuca Forest and visits to the botanical garden.
Iguassu tours feature the natural history of the area, are low-impact and contribute minimal carbon emissions. These low-impact tours and excursions are offered as walking tours, photography tours, birdwatching and wildlife spotting tours.
Many of the tours and excursions at Pousada do Rio Mutum are on foot, horseback and canoe. Anavilhanas Jungle Lodge tours and excursions are, for the most part, exploratory jungle trips on foot.
Sustainable tourism should improve the lives of local people. This ensures growth to the local economy and support to the community.
Hotels selected for this trip share our environmental concerns and beneficially involve the local people. They practice ethical business standards and are committed to environmental preservation. All guides throughout the itinerary and most hotel staff are Brazilian and most are local citizens in each area.
Our Rio tours are integrated with the municipality, neighborhoods, associations or organizations in the local areas, helping support different activities that promote the region, such as folkloric shows, sports, art in addition to supporting new housing projects, community centers and schools. Rio favela tours are led by local inhabitants and directly support the individual neighborhoods travelers will visit. Stops are made at local homes, locally-owned shops and restaurants.
All guides and staff at Pousada do Rio Mutum are local inhabitants. Guides are experts in their given fields. The Anavilhanas staff is mostly made up of local people. Permanent Preservation Areas are strictly respected. The lodge operates a private sewage treatment facility. No waste is disposed in the waters. All staff are trained not to interfere with the wildlife. The lodge is a true partner of the local community, supporting social projects, professional formation and educational programs in association with Fundação Almerinda Malaquias NGO, Public School São José and ICMBIO – environmental agency of Brazilian government.
As members of the IGLTA (International Gay and Lesbian Travel Association), we promise to only work with partners and guides who are conscious and conscientious of the various backgrounds of our globally diverse travelers.
