Responsible tourism: Chile tailor made vacation, Santiago, wineries and the coast
We believe tourism should be educational and sustainable, as well as entertaining. We designed this trip to contribute minimal impact to the local environment with positive benefits to the local communities. All guides follow strict “green ethics”. Reusable water bottles are provided in an effort to encourage less waste and discourage the need for plastic throw-away bottles. All of our guides provide clear and committed instructions for interacting with nature and wildlife with efforts to preserve and leave undisturbed the beauty for generations to enjoy.
All excursions on this trip are low-impact with natural, historical and cultural themes and led by guides trained in ‘Leave No Trace’ practices. The Santiago city tour is for the most part, a walking tour, as are many of the winery/vineyard tours.
Hotels and lodges selected in all of our itineraries practice ethical business standards and are committed to environmental preservation. All wineries and vineyards offered on our trips follow responsible and active sustainability codes and practices.
Santa Rita was the first brand to certify all of its vineyards with the National Sustainability Code of the Chilean Winemaking Industry, a standard adopted by Chile’s main vineyards and WoC (Wines of Chile). In addition, Santa Rita measured its carbon footprint in 2011 using the PAS 2050 methodology in the context of a project with the government. In addition to this, the footprint is measured with the corporate perspective of the GHG Protocol.
At Viu Manent sustainability is understood as the convergence of production processes that are environmentally friendly, socially equitable and economically viable. At Viu Manent, Sustainability, energy efficiency and climate change are priority issues. Since 2008 all Viu Manent’s wine distribution has been certified as Carbon Neutral Delivery. This seal is granted by The Carbon Neutral Company (UK). Through implementation of Light Weight Glass bottles Viu Manent expects to decrease the intensity of our GHG emissions from glass. Viu Manent has a recycling campaign for glass through CODEF, which takes 100% of the broken glass generated in our operations. We also dispose of cardboard by recycling.
At Matetic Vineyards the wines are produced following biodynamic principles, certified by Demeter-Germany, with 100% organic grapes and taking special care of the surrounding environment.
All guides are local townspeople trained in their specialized fields with an emphasis on environmental standards. Our hand-selected list of local scientists, naturalist and specialist guides are well-educated community members and have the interests of their communities at heart when making decisions relating to tourism and their cultural biography.
To help promote educational improvements - a social benefit - Santa Rita’s main shareholder and controller is the Claro Vial Foundation, a nonprofit educational foundation. They understand how important it is for workers to enjoy better health, so they built a medical center in Buin to attend to workers and also their families. This includes medical benefits, additional insurance policies, study scholarships, and cultural, family and recreational activities that complement our intention to foster a healthy work environment.
Viña Estampa seeks to form a highly committed team and strives for a long-lasting relationship with employees and collaborators. To do this they encourage personal and professional development opportunities, such as training sessions and workshops, etc. They also promote a culture of corporate social responsibility with inclusive and communitarian innovation. To do this they develop activities that involve and include the Colchagua Valley community, thereby contributing to improving the quality of life for the people who live here. As a means of contributing to culture and entertainment in the Colchagua Valley, Viña Estampa holds a “Barrel Art” activity every year during the harvest festival. Artists from the area and other regions paint wine barrels that are then exhibited in the gardens around the winery.
As members of the IGLTA (International Gay and Lesbian Travel Association), we promise to only work with partners and guides who are conscious and conscientious of the various backgrounds of our globally diverse travelers.
