How this vacation makes a difference

On all our vacations we have a 'leave nothing, take only photographs' policy. Our guides are asked to explain and encourage this policy. For example, leaving an apple core or feeding a seagull on a mountain summit may seem innocuous but it detracts from the 'untouched wilderness' aspect and can have a detrimental knock-on effect e.g. on the indigenous wildlife. Our guides are not only there for our clients safety & enjoyment but also to informally share their knowledge of the mountain environment - from its geological beginnings and natural history through to contemporary land management and its associated politics. We also like to convey an appreciation of the close interrelationship and intricacies between the geology, natural environment and the socio-economic aspects, past and present.

As part of our continuing commitment to environmentally responsible vacations we are currently in the process of installing a wood pellet boiler here at the lodge (our main base for our walking vacations) here in Scotland.

Along with the history we also like to convey the contemporary opportunities and pressures facing the area both environmental & socio-economic e.g. the detrimental effect of second home ownership.

1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your vacation?

The walking, the food, and Rebecca and Andy's hospitality.

3. Did you feel that your vacation benefited local people, and minimized impacts on the environment?

Andy and Rebecca have tried really hard to create a B&B which offers a very comfortable experience but yet limits the environmental impact. Everything that can be recycled or reused is, but yet at the same time this doesn’t effect the quality of the service offered and I feel this certainly adds to the whole experience and ambience of the lodge.

4. Finally, how would you rate your vacation overall?

An excellent vacation, I will definitely be recommending the tour operator to my friends.

Vacation Reviews

We invite every traveler who books a vacation via us to send in a review. Because we don't run the vacations they're completely independent and unedited... remember to read between the lines though, as two people on the same vacation can have different views!
