It all starts at home so we have first worked at reducing our carbon footprint in our UK offices. Through energy conservation measures and recycling policies in place, we are proud to be actively reducing the waste produced and our impact on the environment. We support various projects all over the world to try and give something back to the places we visit.
Leaders & local suppliers
We use a locally based operator and have established a long-term partnership, assisting with local staff training in all aspects of their jobs, thereby investing in the people to help improve their knowledge and future prospects. All our Icelandic leaders are committed to responsible tourism and receive training on a regular basis. They provide a briefing on various environmental or cultural issues to help you understand how you can help reduce your impact and maximise the benefits to the local communities we visit.
We use predominantly locally owned and run accommodation on this trip, which contributes directly to the local communities. Local staff are employed and locally produced and sourced goods are bought for the accommodation where possible. During the trip we visit national parks, World Heritage areas and we purchase traditional crafts at the right source to ensure any money goes straight to the local community.
We operate small group tours that have a low impact on the communities we visit and we always ensure our operations do not disrupt or lead to the displacement of local people. This allows us to stay in unique and characterful accommodation that would not have benefitted from tourism due to their limited size.
Our selection of alternative winter activities seeks to make the most of the natural environment in its pristine state, rather than changing it. Snowshoeing, cross-country skiing and dogsledding are best suited to remote wilderness areas and the development of these alternatives is key to the long-term survival of many mountain communities.
