How this vacation makes a difference

Environment

Our well trained guides are also very aware about the fragile of the environment and rubbish management. They always explain about the fragility of the environment and rubbish management to the trekkers and advise them to dump their rubbish in proper places and take the non recyclable rubbish with them. These kinds of activities always have less impact in nature. Our company donates some reasonable funds to the different NGO/ local communities who are working in environmental sector locally. Those NGO/ local communities help to maintain the trekking trail and running different kinds of environmental awareness program within the local community.

These kind of programs have helped the local fragile ecosystem remain unexploited and to maintain greenery in the surrounding area as per the local condition. Our tour guides are also aware about Responsible Tourism and minimize the impact on nature for example: Trash things rubbish pit, purify drinking water, do not pick up plan on the way, litter removal, use kerosene fuel for cooking rather than fire-wood.

Community

We are very aware about environment and using local resources. Using of local resources helps to generate employment. We always use local people for different kind of works. These kinds of works help local people to earn their living with good income. Thus, tourism enhances the standard of living of people from the area and the whole nation, and ultimately helps reduce poverty. Use of locally available vegetables, other foodstuffs and different kind of souvenirs also help people to be self employed. For example, due to tourism, the annual income of people from Khumbu region and other touristy area has always been higher than the normal people of Nepal. By purchasing local products such as fresh fruits, handloom products, meat, drinks, and fresh vegetables and providing job opportunities, we aim to support local infrastructures and economys.

We stay with local hotels/ Guest houses, operated by local communities, which minimize impact on the environment by using kerosene/gas fuel instead of fire wood, manage garbage at proper sections etc. We support to local school and health posts by donations and providing educational materials to kids. It does by company and also as per desired by tourists on the way of tour. We support local health posts by giving medical materials. We use local man-power in the trip, such as local tour/ trekking guides. We hire Local transport. It provides a great opportunity for the local inhabitants to enhance their carrier & develop the community. We always encourage local people to preserve their local culture and tradition by providing donation and other technical assistance as per the availability for the continuation of their culture and indigenous knowledge. Thus, people can enjoy the differences with in the community for the long term.

1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your vacation?

My vacation was on the whole just great. Anyway a plus was definitely constituted by the festival in Bhutan, which was not included in the tour but happened to take place just when I was there and the guide was ready to change the plan and fit it in.

2. What tips would you give other travelers booking this vacation?

Get Lonely Planet before leaving: it gives very useful information and can also help you find something extra to enrich the programme.

3. Did you feel that your vacation benefited local people, and minimized impacts on the environment?

Considering the price of it, especially as regards Bhutan, I guess it did. As to the environment unluckily vacations on the whole use a lot of fuel (flights, cars) and it's difficult to find a more sustainable way.

4. Finally, how would you rate your vacation overall?

Excellent. The places are really worth seeing, people are all very kind, the guides were all absolutely wonderful. The young guide in Bhutan and the driver really did all that they could to get the most and the best out of the time we had.
