How this vacation makes a difference

Sustainable Tourism Policy
We recognise that the environment, the community and the culture within which we operate and our relationship with local organisations, businesses and individuals is vital to the success of our business. We therefore commit in the long term to:
- Minimising the direct environmental impact of our operations and being proactively involved in activities that work to protect the natural environment.
- Working with our customers and other relevant interested parties, to understand and respect the needs of local people and our suppliers.

In support of the above we will work to:

- Support our local economy by bringing business to an area of high unemployment, particularly during the winter months
- Support community tourism initiatives in our village to bolster people’s pride in their culture
- Our photo vacations are taken in small groups (maximum 8 people) to minimise the impact on the environment
- Use locally owned traditional accommodation
- Raise the awareness of this policy amongst our customers and suppliers
- Use wherever possible organic fruit and vegetables or locally grown produce in season
- Inform our customers of the history and culture of our area
- Always behave in an environmentally responsible manner, for example take litter home with us; stay on well marked paths and discourage the picking of wild flowers.

Community
One of the main attractions of our vacations is the opportunity to stay in a traditional Spanish village where the local people are very welcoming. This is because we work very closely with our local community and we bring considerable business to the local shops, restaurants and home owners, particularly in the winter time. This is particularly important in a part of Spain where unemployment is very high, especially during the quieter winter months when there are fewer visitors.

We also encourage our clients to visit tourist attractions in Andalucia including the Alhambra at Granada and thus support the wider Andalucian economy. We use only local guides & leaders and those employed by us are fully trained. We talk to our clients before and during walks to remind them about taking litter with them, not to take or damage plants or flowers, to stick to footpaths & tracks at all times and to be extremely careful about fire hazards.

Environment
Our group sizes tend to be small (maximum 8 people) and we always stick to way marked paths in order to limit damage to the wider environment. Our base – Finca la Paz, has solar water heating panels and we produce a range of organically grown foodstuffs for our lunches & picnics, supplemented where necessary by fruit & vegetables bought from the local street market, thus using locally grown, in season produce wherever feasible. We recycle all our food waste, either via the mule (as manure for using on the land) or by composting. At Finca La Paz we support local animal charities and have adopted a number of animals over the last five years.

Photography vacation in Andalucia, Spain

1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your vacation?

The group and John (the teacher) was the foundation for a great experience. OK, it was a photographic vacation but it also contained other elements to make for a great experience. The venues we were taken to were good, we got an overview of the countryside around Torrox. Food was generally good and socially it was great. It was great to be guided by a knowledgeable teacher and to see how others in the group visualized the venues we visited through their cameras. I had not been to Spain for over 30 years and on the way from Malaga to Torrox I had serious misgivings when I watched the rather less-than-pleasing developments along the coast. Torrox was great though, it had very little to do with the style on the coast.

2. Did you feel that your vacation benefited local people, and minimized impacts on the environment?
Yes, to some extent.

3. Finally, how would you rate your vacation overall?
A great experience in a great location. I'd happily go for something similar in the future and I'll have no hesitation to recommend this vacation to friends.

1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your vacation?

The excellent tuition and sociability of Johm, the photography teacher.
The good weather, lovely villages, scenery and accommodation. All great for taking hundreds of good photographs and gaining experience of how to do them better.

2. What tips would you give other travelers booking this vacation?

Check the tour comapny website because Google Search doesnt give you the company using the Photography Andalucia search. Be aware before you book that the main work of the organisation is on the painting and walking vacations, not photography and that this is obvious throughout the vacation, and also on the website.

3. Did you feel that your vacation benefited local people, and minimized impacts on the environment?

Benefit for local people was only the money spent by the group. There wasnt any impact on the environment- positive or negative

4. Finally, how would you rate your vacation overall?

It was very good because of the excellent tutor.
