We ensure minimal social and environmental impact in the places we visit by traveling in small groups (max 12), using local transportation, kayaking, camping and staying in locally-owned accommodation. We also work with experienced local guides who are knowledgeable of Belize’s culture, history, flora and fauna.
We encourage our travelers to act responsibly while visiting marine environments and educate them by including information in our Dossiers about the importance of coral reefs and provide useful tips about how to act responsibly while visiting these fragile marine environments.
Through our non-profit organization, the Planeterra Foundation, we support the Cornerstone Foundation, a local NGO that offers social, educational and environmental programs in San Ignacio, Belize. Donations to this project support their literacy programs, developed to education illiterate and non-English speaking Belizeans. Time permitting, travelers may ask their tour leader to organize an optional visit to this project.
When Bruce went traveling after University in 1989 he realised he had limited options: he could either go backpacking or stay on a resort. Returning to Canada, he set up a company that bridged the gap and offered young professionals an affordable way to immerse themselves in the culture of different countries. Bruce gave some of the profits back to the communities he passed through. Today he has offices in 38 countries and runs a travel foundation that builds projects all over the world; he is adamant that all staff adhere to his original business model of sustainability and happiness.
