Family sailing vacation in Turkey

Small group family vacation
This is a 'small group family adventure' - typically you will join several other families and travel in a group of approx. 16 people. The trips are great value and a great way for you and your children to meet new people! While itineraries are pre-planned there is some flexibility and you'll have plenty of time to yourselves. Most adventure kids tend to be aged between 7 and 15, but some are younger (minimum age is usually 5) and some older (perhaps traveling as part of a larger family group). Please check with the operator to confirm the minimum age for this trip

How this vacation makes a difference

As we charter the gulet for the entire season the owners rely on us for the majority of their living. Activities on this trip tend to be ‘people-powered’ – kayaking and walking – with very little vehicle use. Where we do use a vehicle it tends to be smaller, and consequently less polluting than large coaches. With many people coming together to provide the vacation our money is spread far and wide - suppliers benefiting from our visit include café owners and equipment suppliers, along with the gulet owners, crew, drivers and our local agent staff.

Our Tour Leaders are all trained by us in the importance of responsible tourism with guidance given on how they can make a difference. This then percolates down through those they deal with.

As well as the above, we support a variety of charities and projects worldwide which support vulnerable communities and habitats including Friends of Conservation, Hope Worldwide and Send A Cow. We are also actively engaged with UK travel industry bodies which promote best practice in responsible tourism, such as Tourism Concern, The Travel Foundation and AITO. Our commitment to responsible tourism is not limited to our overseas operation and we have measures to ensure our UK office operates according to our responsible tourism policy. Carbon offsets for all flights booked with us are included in the tour cost.

Story of the vacation provider

This small group operator is just celebrating its 30th year and was originally set up to enrich people’s lives through adventure travel. They find the family travel experience is very popular and groups gel together quickly. Taking your children to local communities creates an instant fascination and can be a natural ice-breaker. Family adventure vacations can offer an opportunity to learn about other lifestyles and break down barriers. There is great advantage to spending time together, doing things you would never normally consider, as opposed to taking a package vacation where your children are separated and sent off to their own area.

We all enjoyed traveling on the gullet and being with the other families. We had great fun snorkeling each day.

2. What tips would you give other travelers booking this vacation?

The cabins are very hot in the summer and so be prepared to sleep on deck with everybody else.

3. Did you feel that your vacation benefited local people, and minimized impacts on the environment?

To a degree

4. Finally, how would you rate your vacation overall?

A very relaxing and enjoyable vacation with some cultural visits. A very knowledgeable guide. Great fun for teenagers too.

1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your vacation?

Skocjan caves was amazing, but we also really enjoyed the experience of kayaking and rafting down the river, the scenery was so beautiful and we had never done that before.

2. What tips would you give other travelers booking this vacation?

Pack light and make sure that your case pulls along easily. Don’t bother with walking boots, trainers would have been fine. It is quite tiring for young children as there is a lot of travel and they sometimes get very little sleep - pace yourself.

3. Did you feel that your vacation benefited local people, and minimized impacts on the environment?

Yes, we used local transport, ate in local cafe's, stayed in individual hotels as opposed to big chains.

4. Finally, how would you rate your vacation overall?

Excellent.
