Ireland horse riding vacation

How this vacation makes a difference

There is minimal tourism within North Tipperary and few local jobs. By bringing people to the area we directly assist in job creation by the employment of full-time staff. We encourage our guests on our Ireland horse riding vacation to visit local attractions and restaurants, thus indirectly assisting in local job creation. We are conscious of food-miles issues and source local organic and free range produce. All repairs, maintenance, and farming assistance are provided by local people.

We reduce, re-use and recycle. We compost all vegetable waste, we avoid buying heavily packaged products where possible, and we re-cycle glass, plastics, paper, cardboard, tins, cans, batteries and electrical products.

Because our water source is a private well, we are very conscious of the need to conserve water, especially in the summer. We conserve rain-water for our horses. We steam clean within the house. Please do not ask us to send you a brochure because, in accordance with our paper free policy, all information about our centre is available in electronic form!

1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your vacation?

Riding at speed up and down the mountains of Tipperary on fabulous sure footed horses! Also enjoying the beautiful scenery and experiencing a traditional Irish music night at one of the local pubs!

2. What tips would you give other travelers booking this vacation?

Take the opportunity of going on a longer horse ride and enjoy too a music session at a pub if possible. Be prepared for all weathers.

3. Did you feel that your vacation benefited local people, and minimized impacts on the environment?

Yes ...the owner of the trekking Centre cooks with local ingredients where possible and recycles.

4. Finally, how would you rate your vacation overall?

A perfect opportunity to experience the beautiful Irish countryside on horseback. Clare Leon the owner of the trekking centre is very knowledgeable, welcoming and hospitable. We had a lovely couple of days in Ireland with one day riding.

Yes.

The last day; a full-day ride to Upperchurch and Knockalough; a relatively fast pace, with natural obstacles to negotiate on surefooted horses (and including lunch at Kinnane’s Bar with said horses). Also, the Thursday evening spent at Jim o'the Mills was unique.

2. What tips would you give other travelers booking this vacation?

Take plenty of light weight protective clothing and a sense of humour.

3. Did you feel that your vacation benefited local people, and minimized impacts on the environment?

Excellent. A warm welcome, skilled horsemanship and well trained horses, unspoilt countryside.

1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your vacation?

We stayed for one week as a family with our two daughters aged 11 and 18 years. Nobody knows heaven - so nobody can tell, is it a Black HOLE in the atmosphere...? But there is a place on Earth too few people know... The Black HILL! And if there exists a heaven on earth, I guess this should be the place - you really can reach the sky (if you are sitting on horse-back of course) and you have a circular (360 degree) view over 100 kms wide. Nobody will disturb you and if for some reason you want to hide (rain?), Clare, your guide, will bring you safely back and let you stay (or rest) in her fairytale house... There you can relax and 'fill up your senses' with all kinds of books and music ... even some singing (can you hear the angels singing??). Would you believe me, if I tell you this place REALLY exists!

2. What tips would you give other travelers booking this vacation?

Who ever has the possibility to go there - forget the Irish rain and open your heart to enjoy this peaceful area and this vacation with horse whisperer Claire and her daughter Lilly.

3. Did you feel that your vacation benefited local people, and minimized impacts on the environment?

We, as a family, with a particular place in our hearts for horses, enjoyed the kindness, friendliness, and the sympathy, of this particular place. Would you believe me if I tell you that, on top of this all, the gastronomy, daily served by (angel) Lily, has more than a heavenly touch... Only the French wine is imported from earth... but... so divine!

4. Finally, how would you rate your vacation overall?

I certainly can recommend it to all horse and people lovers.
