WHAT TO DO ON A CAPE TOWN TO VICTORIA FALLS HOLIDAY

Lose yourself in nature

Southern Africa is bursting at the seams with incredible nature from the Okavango Delta, where you can take a trip through the reeds in a Mokoro dugout canoe, to the stark region of Damaraland with its petrified forests and ancient valleys that wind their way towards the looming peaks of the Brandberg Massif. Bush walks in the Kalahari are a fascinating introduction to nature’s nuances, and learning about life here from local guides the ultimate way to become part of the landscape.

Experience wildlife like nowhere on earth

Animals clustering around waterholes: elephant, zebra, springbok, jackals and giraffes all tussling for precious space; by night, floodlit visions of lions, leopards, and black and white rhino as you sip on a sundowner. A Cape Town to Victoria Falls vacation is not only a sensational package of unparalleled sights; it is also a wildlife experience like no other. As you journey across southern Africa, the savannah gives way to the wildlife of the desert and the Delta. Once an expedition for hardened travelers mapping the dark continent and its curious creatures, these landscapes now welcome every type of traveler, and the vast space of Sub-Saharan Africa still ensures stretches of wilderness and plenty of unexplored corners - as you enter each realm, your guides will explain everything that’s folding out before you. A chance to explore four unique countries, each with their own wildlife personality, you’ll see lions paddling across rivers, or thundering herds of Cape buffalo; giraffe elegantly reaching up to eat some acacia leaves; and track rhinos by night with the most experienced of bushmen. Bring your zoom lens – and a sense of adventure.

Meet the San

Walking through the bush with a native San guide allows you to discover culture and nature like never before. Their intimate knowledge of the Kalahari remains unrivalled, as Bruce Taylor, from our supplier Sunway Safaris, discovered:

"Going on a walk with these guys is amazing. They'll look at a twig – literally a twig – and stop. Somebody will dig up the tuber below it, scrape the skin off, squeeze the pulp and drink from it. Then they put the skin back, pat the mud back onto it and bury it again so that the plant can continue to grow. Later, they’ll make a fire. Hard wood, soft wood, hand roll, bit of bark... and suddenly they’re all huddled round a fire while you’re freezing in your jacket. It's really impressive."

Get to grips with the desert

Picture the scene: the silhouette of a courageous sand surfer on the crest; the wasted trees of Dead Vlei below – hikers and thrill seekers will be rewarded with surreal views for miles across the desert; otherworldly photo opportunities; and the satisfaction at having conquered some of the highest dunes in the world.
