Our stay was wonderful. Nothing was too much trouble for the owners, David and Jackie. From the welcoming tea and biscuits on arrival, to our departure, all was everything you could possibly wish for. The setting is absolutely stunning, with views over the owners farmland. The accommodation is spotless, and it obvious from the many nice touches, that a lot of thought and effort has gone into every aspect of this very personal B&B. (more)Peter Carney

Wheelchair friendly vacations, Brittany, France
Memorable parts? I think the scenery on the Brittany coast, and a wonderful meal we had on our last day, plus some great visits to local artisan producers. Local benefits? Yes, we shopped in local shops and markets, and five of us travelled together in a relatively fuel-efficient car, using the ferry rather than flying. Overall rating? Going away was quite an undertaking as two of our party were over 90. We did quite a lot of forward planning, and Jacqui was tremendously helpful,... (more)Lis Burch
From £200 - £500 per week (sleeps 4)
Como B&B accommodation, Italy
Memorable parts? The hikes around Lake Como and Cascina Rodiana itself. The house is amazing and the owners have put a lot of effort and energy in renovating it, thinking about environmental aspects and interesting little details (check out the window shutters) in doing that. I stayed in the old part of the house with a lovely spot of a big fireplace and a small window which was a perfect place to read. During nighttime, the high windows closed so that the room became completely dark and... (more)Kristina Mδnd
From €80 - €180 per room per night
Self catering farmstay in Tuscany
Just wonderful. Beautiful place to stay. Friendly, local, well informed and English speaking hosts. Most memorable was sitting outside the farmhouse on an evening, looking at the stars, listening to the quiet, and thinking about the beautiful day just spent. (more)Judy Powell
Outstanding. (more)Lou Limoges

Fantastic! Most memorable was electric bike riding in the hills! (more)Kim Fisher
Excellent - one of the best self-catering places we've stayed at. Would be very happy to go back there. (more)Philippa Silver
From £385 - £620 per cottage per week (sleeps 5)
Sardinia farmhouse accommodation

Amazing, it blew us away completely. We will definitely return, hopefully with family and friends in tow next time! (more)Natalie Ball
Best vacation we've ever had. Properly relaxing... We felt very looked after by Alberto who served us breakfast every morning and dinner every evening. He always had plenty of time to talk about the local area. (more)Alison Jenkins
From €29 - €50 per person per night
Bologna B&B farmhouse accommodation in Italy
Memorable parts? The region is beautiful, and Federico was a great host. We had a great conversation with him and enjoyed the home-made wine. Federico takes the environmental protection seriously and lived his philosophy right in front of us. We especially enjoyed the opportunity to have dinner with two gentlemen from France, a couple from Amsterdam, and the Italian host. These multicultural "events" are the best way to get to know the citizens of the world Tips? The bus reaches to... (more)Lance Farrell

Kalkan accommodation, Turkey
Very good - lots of great memories to keep us going until our next adventure. Pauline is a mine of useful information which allowed us to see things the Turkish way. (more)Pete Weisner
This is a wonderful place, very tranquil and relaxing, unless you dislike country sounds (cockerels crowing, goats bleating and of course the hooting of owls at night!). We absolutely loved it and think anyone with a soul would do so too! (more)Lynne Evans
The friendly people that we met were the highlight. We felt that we had made new friends by the time that we left. We learnt a lot more about the country than we would have done staying in more touristy hotels. (more)Melinda Cresser
From TRY95 per person per night incl breakfast
Ullapool self catering cottages, Scotland
Excellent! Exploring the local environment and seeing wild deer, seals and otters were the most memorable parts. (more)Lindy Brown
The 'Lochside Cottages' are in a beautiful spot, right on the shores of Loch Broom. Very peaceful and relaxing. Good access to hills in Assynt and Torridon for the more adventurous. (more)Elaine McAdam
The view from each window spectacular and so close to the loch that it was almost like being on a boat at times! Views changed with the stillness of the water or with the time of day and weather. Misty mountains at dawn to orange and red sunsets and each day and time different from dawn to dusk. (more)Julia Graham
From £190 - £600 per week (sleeps 4-6)
Donegal self catering cottages, Ireland
Memorable parts? The view from the cottage window onto the Atlantic. Tips? Take waterproofs and walking boots, or at least sand shoes, but also sun cream and sunglasses. Shoes for rock-pooling will be really useful. And take a decent map of the area if you're planning to do walking, they're not easy to find locally. Local benefits? We spent money in local businesses, but the house could have been less impactful: why not just give us one bin bag for non-recyclable waste, and... (more)Kate Macdonald
From €499 - €799 per cottage per week (sleeps 6)

When Richard Branson was trying to fly round the world in a balloon, a disabled friend of mine said "If he's so desperate for thrills, he should try using a wheelchair for a week. I get that kind of excitement every time I try to cross the road!" Maybe that was a little exaggerated, but I knew what he meant. As a wheelchair user of some 30+ years, I've had to live in a world that was less than perfect when it came to meeting my needs. I'm not talking about the outer reaches of Mongolia either; I'm talking about the UK. At least things here have been improving. The same, however, can't be said for most of the rest of the world and there's nothing like the annual vacation to bring this into sharp focus. Whilst many 'Responsible Travelers' are contemplating a trip to the depths of the Amazon rainforest or the top of the Himalayas, I'm dreaming of wheeling along the front at Benidorm! Videos about disabled travel

Lynne Kirby from Enable vacations talks about how disabled travel is changing:

10 years ago some people didn't even entertain the idea of going abroad. Much has improved but we need to build confidence.

Josι Fernandes Franco describes how Parque dos Sonhos vacations facilitate disabled travel:

Our infrastructure and activities include everybody. From enabling people with quadriplegia to go rafting and people with paraplegia to zip line, to allowing both the able bodied and people with a range of disabilities to go horseriding and sightseeing together. The reactions are fantastic. "I never thought about doing this before. I feel like all the other people."
