The Feria de Artesania is one of the most popular annual events on the island - with displays of locally made produce, from furniture to musical instruments, from the best local cheese to dried fish and clothing, painting and weaving. It is a good place too to listen to local musicians - and visiting groups from the other islands of the archipelago who come to play here in concerts held in the evenings. The 3 day Feria takes place in May at the central town of Antigua, and most islanders will come to visit the festival.
30th May: Canaries day on the 30th May to celebrate the first session of the autonomous government of the Canaries in May 1983. Celebrations are held in various towns and villages - the largest being in the administrative capital of Puerto Rosario.
14th : Saint Buenaventura day in Betancuria to celebrate the island's patron saint . Local cultural groups and musicians put on concerts and there is a procession through the historic old town.
Corralejo: The saint's day of Señora del Carmen the patron saint of Corralejo. A festival of dance, music and gastronomy with processions through the town.
Kiteboarding and windsurfing world and speed championships take place at Playa Sotavento near Costa Calma. Top riders from all over the world participate in the events which draw many international spectators.
Round the island kayak tour. This annual event - which is not a race - takes place over a week with many international visitors taking part. Its intention is to celebrate the beauty and marine diversity of the island's varied coastline.
The International Jazz festival takes place in Corralejo - with many international stars playing at the event.
On the third Thursday the festival of the Romería de la Peña in Vega de Río de Palmas. This celebrates the first European settlement in the Atlantic here in 1404 - and the miraculous appearance of the vision of the Virgin . The most important festival on the island draws thousands of Majoreros on a pilgrimage to the village and the ravine where the vision took place.
Gran Tarajal: The international Open Deep Water Game Fishing Competition takes place offshore with international sport fishermen participating. Blue Marlin and big tuna are amongst the prize catches.
The annual swimming race to the Isla de los Lobos - 3.5 kilometres off the coast from Corralejo.
