One of the most memorable things was the beautiful Carpathian countryside and the people working in the fields as of yesteryear. The haymaking and haystacks were fascinating and we all fell in love with rural Romania.
EXCELLENT, our guide Alexandra was first class....Hard to say as so many wonderful bits. Maybe visiting the fortified church in the village where Prince Charles has bought a house, and then going by horse and cart to visit the brick maker. (more)Peter Hartnall
It is difficult to pick out the 'most' memorable as the whole vacation was absolutely wonderful. The guide made it possible to visit small museums and 'cottage industries' such as a rural tile maker, which involved a pony cart ride, none of which would have been possible without her local knowledge. It's difficult to pick one thing. For me the Carpathian Forest Steam Train trip and the visit to Viscri Weisskirch are the two most memorable items. (more)Martin Sutton
The best thing was sharing a meal with local villagers and expressing our gratitude at their hospitality and abilities to be self sustainable in a beautiful part of the world (more)Ariana Sorensen

It was a magical vacation. The people we met were so generous and helpful. The Romanian countryside is completely unspoiled and takes you back in time; and the culture in Transylvania is stunning. (more)Calire Taylor
Exploring medieval citadels, tracing the old city walls, and climbing all the watch towers one comes across are some of the most enjoyable moments of this vacation.
Pack light - most of these charming hotels do not have elevators :)
I think the kindness and sincerity of the local people, coupled with Romania's unspoiled natural beauty benefited me!
Thoroughly enjoyable and memorable! (more)Betty Jung
We felt that the whole Transylvanian experience was memorable, especially seeing the Castles and also the Halloween party was amazing. I have never experienced a Halloween quite like it ever before, just wished more people had dressed up .
Just to go with an opened mind, Expect a lot of traveling and not a lot of free time to yourselves , but experience an amazing country with fantastic scenery, lots of culture and history. Having a very knowledgeable and... (more)gillian simpson

There were 3 distinct parts to the vacation - first the Saxon Villages & Churches in Transylvania (staying in Viscri was a highlight), then to beautiful Maramures with the wooden Churches (Popica Farm was another memorable place to stay) & finally to Bucovina with its stunning painted monasteries. Gosh, where to start! The scenery and the architecture of the Transylvanian Alps was stunning. Very unspoilt with a huge diversity of plant and insect life. I was very interested in the agriculture, two of our guides grew up on farms and were happy to explain the methods used and acted as interpreters for me when I had some questions for a shepherd we met in the mountains. My son loved the cycling, there are some very good cycle paths which were quite challenging but... (more)Sara Wood
To quote my son, when asked the same question... I liked all of it!!
However, if I have to chose particular moments... Getting a feel for the rhythm of village life on a glorious spring morning in Biertan, taking an evening stroll alongside the locals in Brasov and making it to the top of the 1426 steps (my younger son counted!) to see the view from Poienari Citadel.
We went to Romania in Spring and I would recommend going there at Easter (which is a little... (more)Jo Murray
Absolutely amazing. The company who ran the tour were incredible- friendly, helpful, they bent over backwards to make sure I had everything I needed. My guide had incredible knowledge and was so friendly and helpful... I could not recommend this more highly! (more)Shellie May
I enjoyed all of it, I have to say. In particular, visiting Sighisoara and Sibiu brings back nice memories. Sighisoara for the medieval experience and the luck of arriving there in the middle of a festival. (more)Roxana Radulescu
Discovering the countryside of Romania. We travelled with a very knowledgeable guide who loved his country and had a great wealth of knowledge. As we did mostly homestays we felt we had a real insight into the country. Very memorable was picking enormous mushrooms from the fields and our guide cooking them for us that evening.
There is a lot of traveling but it is worth it. Expect to have great experiences, good food, excellent wine, heaps of history and... (more)Susan Groves
The hike to the ridge to see the shepherds.
Stay for as long as possible at Zalanpatak, which is the most remote location but has the best food and the most helpful staff. Miklosvar is also a good location but one got the feeling that the staff were not really that "interested". Horse riding is only possible for older / experienced riders.
Conversations with our guide certainly improved our awareness of some of the conservation issues.... (more)Nigel Kieser
