Environment
Banyan Tree defines success not just financially, but also socially and environmentally. Sustainable development as a socially responsible business is a core value of the Group. The companys triple bottom line of economic, social and environmental success helps direct sustainable development by aiming to inspire associates, guests, and partners to take a wider consideration encompassing a long-term view when making business decisions. These sustainability values have been embedded as core values since our founding and have enabled us to be agents of social and economic development in areas where we have a presence and through media in areas where others desire and presence.
In terms of our supply chain, we work closely with local suppliers, when possible, and have had them sign our Environmental and Social Sustainability Policy which addresses the scope of our operations including; location and sensitivity of the local environment, environmental and social impacts, activities, products, services and facilities.
Apart from that, we also prioritize green management in every aspect of our operations. All our associates are working towards the goal of reducing consumption rates through improved efficiency and by adopting new technology or practices regarding key operational indicators such as energy; emissions; water, waste and paper use; as well as chemical and pesticide use.
One of our goals at the Banyan Tree, Seychelles is to provide opportunities for guests to participate in sustainability activities every month with an aim of encouraging at least 1 sustainability-themed guest activity per month
To achieve this we must . . .
o Promote and encourage Associates are to inform and advise guests of available CSR activities that guests can participate in during their stay
o Provide information gather key details such as the number of associates and guests who participated, identities of guests if and when possible, as well as comments and / or quotes from guest
At the Banyan tree, Seychelles, we also work together with the Marine Conservation Society in partnership to create our Wildlife Conservation and Rehabilitation Centre to preserve endangered species like the Hawksbill (sea turtle) and Yellow belied Mud turtle (terrapin).
Community
Safeguarding the ecosystem/environment is central to Banyan Trees goal of sharing the original beauty of any of our locations with our guests. We have thus implemented numerous site-and-regional-specific initiatives to support and instil environmental awareness among our associates, our guests and the local communities supporting our resorts.
One of the key pillars of our Corporate Social Responsibility efforts is our Seedlings program, which supports local families, and nurtures young people at risk of societal exclusion by providing them with the motivation and means to complete their education in order to transcend the poverty cycle.
We strive to support the community in which we operate by hiring talent from the surrounding area, 97% of our team of 291 employees are local; providing a complimentary retail space for a local artisan at our daily breakfast restaurant with no commission taken for the sale of any goods; offering a complimentary shuttle van service twice daily for our guests to access the nearby area and to spend money at local business as per their preference.
We aim to reach out to our communities, and that on a regular basis. They too will engage with us, as a business that, through our conservation and community efforts, cares about the community, gives something back.
While staying at the resort, we encourage our guests to get out and explore the region as much as possible - experiencing local markets, cultural landmarks and local food.
