1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your vacation?

We visited the Vakona Mountain Lodge's rescued lemur island near Andasibe Mantadia Reserve. After seeing lemurs in the wild at the other national parks, it was amazing to have them climbing around right in front of us. Seeing how the locals lived and worked was also enlightening. The people work so hard and have so little (compared to us) but are friendly and always happy to give you a smile.

2. What tips would you give other travelers booking this vacation?

Beware of the bad roads and potholes! Hiring a driver is the best thing we did. I also recommend bringing clothes & shoes that you are willing to leave behind for hotel staff or others you meet then you will have plenty of room in your suitcase for souvenirs.

3. Did you feel that your vacation benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?

Not sure if we reduced environmental impacts with all the bottled water we drank but I hope our hotel and meal expenditures benefited the locals and that our fees to the national parks support the continued conservation of these threatened areas and animals.

4. Finally, how would you rate your vacation overall?

Excellent experience overall! My only complaint is that we had a minivan in which the back windows didn't roll down and during those long drives on bumpy roads, the far back seat was pretty uncomfortable for a 5 foot 9 inch woman... never mind if we had someone larger.

1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your vacation?

The whale watching.

2. What tips would you give other travelers booking this vacation?

To plan in advance, especially in high season, because we had problems finding the flights to choose an area to visit (North-West, North-East or South..) as the country is big and moving around is not that practical: passing three times in Tana and having to spend three nights there was really a waste of time and it's not worth it.

3. Did you feel that your vacation benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?

We travelled around, we dined in local restaurants, we bought local products, we used local guides, so I'd say it benefited local people.

4. Finally, how would you rate your vacation overall?

O.K. but very tiring and we could have definitely used some more useful advice on the itinerary and especially on the hotels.
