1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your vacation?

We loved our Ubud hotel. It looked as though an explorer had recently discovered it in the jungle. The salt water pool looking over the rice paddies made for some stunning sunsets and we even saw a monitor lizard! Our bike tour was really fun, the scenery was stunning and it was really interesting cycling through tiny villages and seeing all the family temples.

2. What tips would you give other travelers booking this vacation?

Bali is known for its Civet cat coffee. Be aware it's general practice to keep these wild animals in cages, feeding them and collecting their dropping's. This doesn't make for a happy life so please don't get caught up and buy this coffee. Without demand the supply will stop. Elephant riding tours are on offer across the islands, always avoid these. Note - these were NOT offered by our vacation provider. Also anyone fearful of monkeys may want to miss the Monkey Forest in Ubud! However, my boyfriend was in his element.

3. Did you feel that your vacation benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?

Definitely. The hotels were small and locally owned run by local staff. I was impressed with the tipping schemes as well as these were shared equally amongst staff. There were large water butts in the rooms and dotted about the hotels to save on plastic bottles. We used one bottle in 5 days! Our day tours were run by small local companies, in fact our boat tour was a local fisherman and his son who was learning the ropes. The fish I caught got taken home to feed his young daughter.

4. Finally, how would you rate your vacation overall?

Brilliant, we loved the mix of being on our own for some activities but also meeting other travelers on the bike tour and swapping traveling stories. The hotels were both set in gorgeous locations - we have a lot of sunset shots to sort through - and everyone we met throughout the trip was friendly and laid back. We highly recommend this vacation and only wish we could have stayed for longer.

1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your vacation?

The whole vacation was fantastic, I really liked the Hindu temples at Prambanan, the carving are so well preserved and its just beautiful, make sure you have enough time to look at the smaller temples as well. This is even better than Borobudur and 2 hours is not really enough.

2. What tips would you give other travelers booking this vacation?

Dont miss mount Bromo, the sunrise is spectacular and while we were waiting there was fantastic lightning storm around some more distance mountains. But it does get very cold and you normally get there 1.5 hours before sunrise, however, for around 1.50 you can hire a good quality and clean padded long coat with a hood which kept me so warm. When you get out of your jeep and walk to the look out there are several people hiring them . This is well worth doing as you wont want to pack heavy duty warm clothes just for this. If you are going to Komodo in June - Aug its the mating season, we saw four juvenile dragons but it would be best to get a speedboat there and be there for around 06:30 when they are more active, this would mean missing out the enjoyable traditional much slower boat where you get a very tasty lunch and snorkelling. It just depends what you really want to do.

3. Did you feel that your vacation benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?

Yes, all the guides were local and the guide at Baluran national park was doing really great work on teaching local children about ecology and wildlife preservation. He was so interesting to meet.

4. Finally, how would you rate your vacation overall?

It was a wonderful vacation, all the hotels were lovely and we were so well looked after.

1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your vacation?

Mountain tour in Seraya.

2. What tips would you give other travelers booking this vacation?

Stay an extra night on the Gili's and go snorkelling there!

3. Did you feel that your vacation benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?

Absolutely. The hotel in Munduk helped to conserve rice paddies. The villa in Seraya donated all tips to a fund which helped local girls attend school. The resort in Candidasa supported a local orphanage, and the Gazebo Meno hotel on Gili Meno was built without interrupting a single plant!

4. Finally, how would you rate your vacation overall?

Everything was excellent with the exception of our stay in Sanur, where the hosts of the accommodation were too prying for our liking.
