1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your vacation?

The trips to see the oilbirds at Asa Wright and the roosting scarlet ibis and egrets in Caroni Swamp were highlights, but seeing hummingbirds, toucans and parrots from the veranda and the sheer beauty of the islands made it a trip to live long in the memory.

2. What tips would you give other travelers booking this vacation?

The organised excursions were varied and very worthwhile, especially as the guides were so knowledgeable. However, there was still time to explore alone, so we were very glad we'd taken a bird ID guide to make the most of the opportunities. The optional night walks at Asa Wright were also excellent. These concentrate on other types of nocturnal wildlife but were great to see creatures such as land crabs, stick insects, bats, snakes, scorpions, tarantulas, etc in a safe way. Again, the guides were very informative and knew exactly where to look.

3. Did you feel that your vacation benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?

The organisers used local guides and drivers and the Asa Wright Centre is committed to preserving the forest in Trinidad. On Tobago the main industry is tourism and bringing birders and wildlife enthusiasts onto the island helps to encourage policies to protect the wildlife and the natural environment.

4. Finally, how would you rate your vacation overall?

We had a great time in Trinidad & Tobago and thoroughly enjoyed our vacation. The excursions were all very enjoyable and our guides were extremely knowledgeable and helpful. I'm sure we would have seen far fewer birds without them! It was also a nice balance between organised excursions and free time to wander on our own. The only slight disappointment was that the food, whilst well cooked, was rather limited for vegetarians and we were usually given the side dishes with no substitute for a meat or fish main dish. However, the lack of catering for vegetarians is something we have encountered in many other places so was not completely unexpected and didn't spoil our overall enjoyment.
