1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your vacation?

There were several things that were memorable - being met at the airport in Bali with garlands of flowers, the great food and the lovely friendly staff at hotels - but the things that really stood out were the fantastic guide we had with us, the boat trips, the snorkeling (including seeing 15-20 manta rays which was unforgettable), the komodo dragons, watching the sunset and fruit bats fly from the roof of the boat, and the amazing scenery and 'untouched' feel to the place.

2. What tips would you give other travelers booking this vacation?

Pack plenty of sun screen and a rash vest - spending time on boats and in and around the water all the time it is very easy to catch the sun. Also be open with the company as to what you actually want from the vacation - we found they were more than happy to tailor the vacation to our needs.

3. Did you feel that your vacation benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?

Yes - the majority of our trip was located within a National Park and it appeared that local people were working in the hotel and local boats were used to take us out to other islands. On visiting Rinca and Komodo we went hiking with rangers who again were all local. A lot of the food we were served was made using fresh fish and produce from local markets .

4. Finally, how would you rate your vacation overall?

A fantastic trip to a beautiful place with an abundance of nature, amazing dramatic scenery and really friendly people.

1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your vacation?

The boat trip that the Eco Lodge organised to Rinca and Komodo Island was really lovely. The food was amazing (how he did that magic in a boat is beyond me) and the snorkelling was easily the best I've ever done - we saw Turtles, Rays, Scorpion Fish, beautiful coral and a whole host of gorgeous sea life. Our guide was really friendly and helpful, just like it said on his shirt! The staff organising my booking and taking care of things at the lodge are all unendingly solicitous. I also had the best breakfast pancakes of our Indonesia trip here.

2. What tips would you give other travelers booking this vacation?

The Komodo Eco Lodge is an hour's walk outside of Labuan Bajo. This means you will have to use the hotel's shuttle service (at 50,000Rp a journey) or set off in very good time for your dinner as food here is over priced and under spiced. Check the room price on other websites before booking directly, taking into account payment charges. I thought from the website that there would be bird watching or hiking trips easily available from the hotel but no-one seemed to know anything about these activities.

3. Did you feel that your vacation benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?

There were certainly a lot of helpful staff at the resort who are clearly local to the area and they are happy to arrange trips which further benefit local outfits. The water heater is solar (which maybe explains why the water wasn't warm) and they use a bottle refil system rather than generating lots of new plastic which seems to be quite rare. Beyond that, I have no idea how it's an 'eco lodge' as the rooms are just normal, airy hotel rooms in a lovely landscaped garden area.

4. Finally, how would you rate your vacation overall?

We had a very pleasant time at the lodge and were pleased that they took care of us while we experienced this gorgeous part of the country.
