1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your vacation?

The stunning views, the tasty food and the friendly people! The village of Mairena is beautiful and the views from the accommodation and the surrounding area are breathtaking. It was great getting to know the hosts, Emma and David, as well as the other guests who were staying in the accommodation. This is a perfect vacation if you want some independence but don't want to be too isolated. Emma and David will chat to you each morning about what you plan to do with the day and will provide advice and make sure that you have everything you need. Eating in the traditional restaurant was a great way to meet up with other guests and talk about what they'd been doing with their day, and the food was delicious! The whole trip was memorable, from start to finish.

2. What tips would you give other travelers booking this vacation?

We weren't sure whether the village would be easy to get to, but we rented a hire car and it was very straightforward and definitely worth it when we got there! The fact that Mairena is so rural definitely adds to the vacation experience; the village has so much character and the way of life there is very traditional and relaxed.

3. Did you feel that your vacation benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?

Emma and David, although British originally, have lived in Mairena for many years and are very much an integral part of the community there. Their restaurant employs local staff and all the food is seasonal and made from produce supplied by their neighbours. They own a finca (piece of land) just outside of the village where they grow fruit and vegetables, and David is very knowledgeable about preserving water supplies, which is an important issue in this area. We were introduced to the local people and shown independent cafes and bars where we could stop for a drink.

4. Finally, how would you rate your vacation overall?

It was wonderful, the perfect combination of activity and relaxation, and we very much hope to go back again some day!

1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your vacation?

The first sight of the view from the balcony was amazing - and it just carried on being great. Walking up the peak was also great - we saw ibex! The food was utterly memorable for all the right reasons. Soledad the chef grew up in the next village and lived just round the corner and her versions of local dishes such as ajo blanco and fruit bread desserts were stunning. Especially brilliant were the pear with chocolate sauce and the fried sardines with a tangy tomato sauce. Delicious.

2. What tips would you give other travelers booking this vacation?

This is the place to come if you want to see village life, eat very well and walk in peaceful and spectacular countryside without meeting other people! And the views from our balcony were the best we've ever soon. If you want to walk, avoiding high summer would be best unless you want to just concentrate on the peaks (at 2000+ metres it's lovely, like a sunny day in the Peak District, but down in Mairena it's still very warm!)

3. Did you feel that your vacation benefited local people, and minimized impacts on the environment?

Yes. The house was beautifully restored. Emma and David were obviously an important part of the local community. They bought everything they could locally including some things from the village itself. They used solar power and employed local people. The of walking meant that we could have a vacation minus car although

4. Finally, how would you rate your vacation overall?

Fabulous! Relaxing, interesting and inspiring. We want to come back and will recommend it to everyone we know!

1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your vacation?

Walking in the beautiful Alpujarras Mountains. Picking oranges and almonds. Encounters with Andalucian horses. The quality of the accommodation (beautifully decorated house) and lovely meals throughout our stay. And last but not least the kindness and endless helpfulness of our hosts, David and Emma and of their housekeeper Soledad.

2. What tips would you give other travelers booking this vacation?

You need a full range of clothing if you go to this area in March as we did - we experienced both the cold (enough to wear full winter gear) and beautiful sunshine (and comfort in a T-shirt) over the space of a few days.

3. Did you feel that your vacation benefited local people, and minimized impacts on the environment?

Yes, local people gain employment from this venture and tourism benefits the local economy.

4. Finally, how would you rate your vacation overall?

This was a very pleasant and relaxing vacation for a family of 4 (2 adults, 2 children aged 8 and 14) seeking activities (walking and horse-riding) and discovery of this part of Spain. We would like to return to this destination.
